When Fact Doesn't Look Like Fiction

I didn't expect the roadrunner to look like the cartoon, but when my dad sent me the picture of the road runner in his backyard, I did expect something slightly bigger. I remember when my mom was alive, she and my dad frequently saw a pair of road runners hanging around up at their church. Recently though, my dad and his current wife, Diana, have seen this one (assuming it's the same bird) in their backyard. How often does something you've seen on TV or read about not quite fit with your imagination when you see it in real life? Do you have an example?

I wish I could say but I've rarely seen any kind of wildlife outside of the roadrunner, they aren't really all that big but boy are they fast.

When I was a kid, roadrunners sometimes chased our car. The car always won but the roadrunner gave it a good workout. Someone gave me a roadrunner pin but I lost it on the highway of life. I loved that pin.

@AmbiePam It is strange sometimes recalling the things we have lost. There was a ring with a purple stone (probably a blob of glass) that I loved but lost it somehow.

Beep beep! For the record, coyotes can easily outrun a roadrunner. They run twice as fast (40 MPH vs 20 MPH). But that would have made for a very short cartoon.

Now I've seen a coyote in person (haven't we all), and it looked as I thought it would. They always look like they're hungry though, and that is disturbing when you're ten feet away.

I don’t think that I have ever seen one in person. I also expected that it would be larger.

@Tampa_girl7 I like the looks of it, but I guess the size might disappoint. To me, it looks like it has a little mohawk, and I love that!

That one surely doesn’t look like the one on TV. I’m surprised. I thought it was much bigger.

I can't think of anything like that, Amber. Maybe I am just tired after done with my first production. Maybe I would say, some flowers look really good on TV but in real life not that good

So, that's a road runner. Yes, it is smaller in real life than that in the cartoons. I have had experiences with this topic regarding food. They look so big and so delicious on TV, especially the hamburgers and the chicken. They look so big and delicious on TV and in pictures, but when I go there and eat, I would be disappointed because the burger and the fried chicken that I thought was big were just the ordinary sizes.

I know! I remember watching a news show that revealed that directors actually paint things like the tomato on the sandwich to make them more appealing, or strategically place tooth picks in the sandwich to “hold” the meat up, making the sandwich or burger look thicker. They like to trick us.

It is alot smaller than I imagined it to be. So, do the roadrunners follow your Dad, or does your Dad follow the roadrunners? They must be drawn to his lovely singing voice.

The first time I remember seeing a roadrunner on our dirt road and mom told me what it was, I was surprised and asked if it was just a baby... The roadrunner was always the same size as Wile E Coyote.

The road runner is smaller than I would have thought to be. How deep the grand canyon truly is. I have been fortunate to see it in person twice.

I haven't seem a real life road runner. When I lived in the "boonies" our neighbor came banging on our door one afternoon (half drunk) and asked if I had seen the peacock. And I thinking he was just drunk and seeing things said no of course not. And about the time that I got to the end of my sentence the peacock showed up right behind him in the yard. LOL

Beep beep ! I remember thinking that when I first saw one . . . I guess we expect some purple tall ostrich looking bird . I thought that about that Tasmanian Devil character too (the one that's kinda crazy and spins around like tornado!).

Come to think of it, the cartoon looks nothing like the real Tasmanian devil. And here I expected authenticity in my animation!

I've never seen a roadrunner but I think I would expect them to be a bit bigger too. It does remind me of the cartoon

I saw roadrunners often as a child in the southwest. I was surprised later in life that a lot of younger people do not know the roadrunner is a bird but only a cartoon. I loved reading "Clan of the Cave Bear." I read all the books in the series. I was disappointed in the movie. It did not capture any of the beauty of the book but only displayed ugliness, in my opinion.

I think they're cool looking birds. I can't think of an example. Sorry. Have a good weekend. I thought of something. Fast food never looks as good in person as it does on TV. They use all kinds of tricks to make the food look perfect.

Amber this made me laugh. I mean I always picture the Roadrunner the same size as the Cotoye. I mean that's what the cartoon showed us. But this is so tiny. Now I wonder how big is a coyote.

@BabeSays You know, a lot of them ARE more along the size of a golden retriever as well. I should clarify NO coyote has the body of a German shepherd, so they will never look as big as one of them. Coyotes are all scrawny, so their skinny bodies give the appearance of a skinny dog. And, in all honesty, they are more afraid of you than anything. The biggest worry would be if you had a small dog or cat with you.

Glad I could give you a chuckle. I’ve been up close to a coyote, and I’d describe them as big as a German shepherd.

@AmbiePam That sounds scary. In Mauritius, there aren't any wolves or coyotes. I didn't know it was this big. I thought it would be the size of a normal dog. Mostly I pictured it the same size as street dogs.
