I have mentioned this show a couple of times in posts about what we were currently watching and now that we have finished it, I thought I would go ahead and write a post and tell you how good it was.
We started watching MAID because I saw clips of it on TikTok before our last trip to Texas, and then a friend recommended it and said how much he and his husband liked it. So we decided to give it a chance.
I knew from the clips that I was going to like it, but I wasn't sure how much Chris would like it. The TV show is about a low income single mother who escapes domestic and emotional abuse at the hands of her baby daddy to provide a safer, more stable and better life for her and her toddler. Chris actually enjoyed it just as much as I did. '
It was set in the Pacific Northwest, around the Seattle area to be more specific. Some of you know that I grew up in Portland, Oregon. So I loved getting to see the settings that I remember from visits when I was a kid and teen.
The TV Show, which is just one season (so far) comprising of ten episodes is based on a book by the author Stephanie Land, which I am currently reading right now. There are obviously differences in the book and movie, but there are similar. The book/movie is based on a series of journals that the main character kept about her life and the houses she cleaned as a maid. The show also follows the main character Alex's relationship with her recovering alcoholic father who seesm to always take her baby daddy's side. A main theme in the whole show is the disconnection that Alex feels not only with her father but with her own mother who would rather live in her car and drink then be a mother or grandmother, which makes their relationship and the character...interesting to say the least.
I would suggest it to just about anyone. Actually I would suggest the book and the movie, but I will do a real recommendation for the book after I have finished it. I am really hoping that they do another season of the show, because she has written another book that details her life after the end of the first book. When she finally gets to follow the dream she put off because she was struggling to raise her daughter and escape the father of her daughter.
Here is a link to the IMDB page for the show so you can check it out for yourself, but if you have Netflix, I highly recommend it. The whole season is under ten hours and totally binge worthly.
Maid: Created by Molly Smith Metzler. With Margaret Qualley, Nick Robinson, Rylea Nevaeh Whittet, Andie MacDowell. After fleeing an abusive relationship, a young mother finds a job cleaning houses as she fights to provide for her child and build them a bet

@thislittlepennyearns Aw, that's so sweet. I'd hate for Netflix to charge you for sharing your password though. They seem to be doing that now.

Sounds interesting but I canceled my subscription since there were not many options in Mauritius. It became worthless to keep paying for three new movies added every month.
I planned to subscribe again when they release Stranger things season 5. Love that show. Did you watch it?
