This morning began with my regular semi-annual visit to the dentist. The checkup and cleaning went well. Other than the bad tooth that needs a root canal, everything is fine. The dentist did give me a prescription for another round of antibiotics should the bad tooth act up while K and I are camping in VA next week. Better to be prepared should something happen, as getting the meds while up there could prove problematic. I'm back home in the office now and hoping to get some work done on Setting Friday Free. How do you feel about visiting the dentist?

I went a couple of weeks ago, and have a cavity I go back and get filled June 28th. I was there for an hour and a half, and she kept me waiting, her office gave me a $5 gift card to Sonic, and a $5 gift card to Starbucks. It was a nice gesture. But I still don’t like going. Hopefully, your camping trip will be a blast with no tooth pain at all!

Did your dentist have an emergency? What could have held her up for so long? It was nice of them to give you the gift cards.

@DWDavis She said she just got behind. I admit I was frustrated because I felt terrible that day. My appointment was at noon, but I made my next appointment for first thing in the morning in hopes to avoid waiting again. Yes, the gift cards were very nice. She once had to cancel my appointment the day of because her sister went into labor, and because of that gave me free teeth whitening. I'm always self-conscious about my smile, so I was excited.

@AmbiePam She's rare indeed to try and make it up to you when she inconveniences you. Most professionals will barely offer an apology.

I don't like the dentist; but I don't freak out like I used to. Had a really bad experience when I was a child; but "painless" dentistry has helped me get over that. The worse thing is the novocaine needle. Have a great weekend.

I keep hearing about sedation dentistry but haven't tried it.

@DWDavis I know they don't like to give sedation because it takes longer to get you out of the office! I once went to a dentist that gave laughing gas. Didn't do anything for me. Have a great weekend.

I have no problem in insisting the dentist. I’m rare among Kentuckians: I still have teeth. I always like to pass along some helpful hints from not-Heloise: a couple of hours before your dental appointment, take a couple of Tylenol. (Not the NSAIDs because they can make you bleed more easily.) Helps minimize pain.

Because of my "bionic" hip, I have to take antibiotics before every dentist visit. I don't usually feel much pain. Either I'm insensitive to it, or it's the brushing, flossing, and rinsing I do. K says it's the former, as she does what I do, and she still hurts.

My dad lost all his, but my mom still has all hers. I hope I take after her as far as my dental genes.

@dwdavis The pain and discomfort done to my wallet are unpleasant.

I'm fortunate enough to have dental insurance. I shudder to think what it would be without coverage.

I used to be terrified but I'm okay now. Techniques have changed so much since I was a child.

I was lucky as a kid to have a great dentist who loved working with kids.
