Wedding is an important part of everyone's life. Everyone wants to make a good memory of that. In India in the name of a marriage sometime only to show off a lot of money is spent on the name of decoration, lighting, music, and food. Some people take a loan to book a luxury resort that is out of their budget only to impress people for some hours.
A wedding is a ceremonial event where two people generally male and female are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs can vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes
if you have enough money you can spend but some people do it under social pressure which is not justified. There is another social evil in India in the name of dowry which is prohibited by law but still prevalent in society.
what is your take on this, in my opinion, marriage should be as per tradition in a simple manner without any extravagant spending.

Some weddings in the US are big and costly affairs... A young couple may have the help of their respective parents to pay for the wedding or they may take out large loans to have the type of wedding they (usually the woman) wants to have. (Most men don't care about a wedding in a church. They're willing to get married because that's what the woman wants but the guy would be fine if all the pomp and circumstance was totally forgotten/ignored.)
I have no opinion on prearranged marriages or on dowries. Those aren't "normally" practiced in the US. I don't know any Indians in the US well enough to ask them if they subscribe to those practices.

Yes many like to show off their wealth in marriages , previously they used to demand dowry in cash and now it still exists but in other forms ..

If grand celebrations are not under pressure I am in favour of such celebrations. And as for dowry that system is on the decline in India

Yeah, and also added to that are the relatives who arrives 7 days before the wedding and the expenses to provide for their food and accommodation. And also the food wastage, especially in a hot country like ours where foods are hard and costly to preserve and the gluttony guests gorging on foods in a shameful manner.
