Bee Facts- What's All The Buzz About?

Some people give bees a bad rap for stinging people. Is it really their fault? I was strung once when I stepped on a bee going barefoot in my yard. I think it probably hurt the dead bee a lot more than me. Have you ever had a bee stinging experience?
I have many plants and bushes throughout my yard which are visited often by bees during summertime. When I'm out on my deck, I notice my one large bush filled with them, traveling from flower to flower, busy as you know what, lol. Anyway, with the warmer weather of Spring leading into Summer, those "busy bees" look for the pollen and nectar found in those flowers it searches.
A SWEET EXPERIENCE: READ ON
What happens next is a marvel of nature as the bee uses the nectar and its own enzymes to produce honey. As a matter of fact, the honeybee is the only insect that produces a food (honey) eaten by man in significant quantity. ...
MORE FUN BEE FACTS: DID YOU KNOW
1. Bees have 5 eyes.
2. Bees fly about 20 mph.
3. Honeybees use their front feet, tongue, jaw and antennae to taste with!
4. Worker bees do a type of "waggle" dance to communicate their needs to other bees in the hive.
5. And according to recent estimates there are 2 trillion honeybees in the world.
IMPORTANCE OF BEES:
I never really appreciated the importance of bees in our ecosystem. Carpenter bees for instance, are actually vital for pollinating some of our fruits and vegetables, an important human food source. You can thank bees for their assistance in many of those favorites we eat apples being one example.
OPINION:
So, what's your opinion of bees? Do you know of any additional facts about them? Is there another insect you find more interesting or helpful than bees?

I love bees. I did know that all bees pollinate the trees and plants so that we'd have forests and food but I didn't know all of those things you wrote about.
I have to wonder, did you know that all worker bees are female?
I wish more people around here would stop using insecticides but too many of them are pretenders and even though they've never been stung they'll claim they're allergic to them so that gives them the right to kill them
Another flying kritter also helps pollinate and even controls unwanted insects, can you guess which one it is?

@rebelann I don't like wasps. They are aggressive and I've had them try to build nests inside my outdoor grill and in the wood of my deck. I was bitten by their relatives the yellowjacket and hornet, ouch!!!
Did not know that about wasps. I'll let the farmers have them

Now that's "woman power." I knew the males were called drones, so it makes sense. Although, I admit I did overlook that fact. Thanks for the addition.
Bees have many predators among them Lizards, Skunks, Opossums, Raccoons, and of course bears. Add humans with their insecticides and whew, it can be really troublesome for them.
I'm going to guess it's a hummingbird?

Yes, it definitely does hurt and swell. Fortunately, the pain does not last too long.

@leighnyork The hive has other Queens which will eventually hatch and the strongest will take over control.

It depends on the bees some bees are just honeybees and no really known for stinging unless they feel threatened. Unlike some other types of bees like swaps, or yellow jackets they are aggressive and couldn't care less if you are a threat or not. They will sting period. Usually more than once because honeybees only sting once because will lose their stinger and die. There are many different, but they all do the same thing for our environment. Help pollinate and plates.

@dgobucks226 cool! I have a friend that has her own bees for honey at her house. Well, more like they are in her garden she got a hive from another bee farmer. Actually, honey is dark aver it's been filtering its more of that yellow gold color but is normally a dark brown when fresh.

Oh yes, wasps and yellowjackets are really aggressive. Bees are not interested in you. They're too busy pollinating and gathering nectar.

Ouch! I felt that pain too. Yellow jacket stings are even worse as they can get you multiple times which happened to me.

Yes, each bee contributes quite a bit of honey for us to consume. Each honey bee makes about 1 twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
