In the mountains the sun sets early.

June 22, 2023 8:28pm CST
I realized in heights above 8000 feet, the days are shorter. The sun sets early over there. There is another reason that the mist and fog create a blanket below the clouds. These second layer stands in the way for sunlight. So by 4 pm it is dark in the mountains. Travellers are required to plan accordingly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkSRbgXnXNQ&t=36s

It isn't that the sun sets earlier, it's just that the mountains create a shadow over the lower mainland when the sun is behind the mountains. At this time of year in the South the days are shorter anyhow.

thanks Starmaiden you are right. I agree with you. Due to the fog and mist visibility is also low in the mountains

At our other house, we were on the west side of a slight hill and it would be almost mid-morning before the sun appeared although of course it was light well before that.
