Have you ever cut off mold from food to try and economize and not waste all of the food items? Reading an article on the subject just now I find that the mold may have spores falling on other parts of food, you just can't be sure. So it is best to just throw the entire item away. (I have eaten the rest of a loaf of bread after seeing a little mold on a slice) It is best to eat the perishable foods first. Such items as cheese, bread, fruit, vegetables, and such. You can also get food poisoning or have an allergic reaction. This can manifest itself in symptoms like breaking into hives, uncontrollable itchiness, compulsive sneezing, or even difficulty breathing. Yeah, best to just throw the food out and not take any chances. Have you eaten cheese after cutting off the moldy part? I have. I don't eat many white cheeses that seem to mold easily anyway. This was kind of a wake-up call for me. Hadn't really taken it seriously before reading this.

I do that all the time, and I'm still here. I figure, that since the blue in blue cheese is actually mold, it can't be all that bad.

I agree. And few are that sensitive to have a reaction.

I had a moldy tomato yesterday and just tossed it. I think I recall reading something similar.

I would do the same. I try to get the kids to eat the perishable stuff first.

I usually use the bread to make bread pakodas (we dip them in a batter of gram flour, salt, chillie powder, and some other stuff) because we all like these pakodas. It never remains for long enough. Even cheese goes into it very well. :) No stuff stays for long...sigh.

Many years ago I have cut off mold from hard cheese but now it don't last long enough for it to mold. I won't eat around mold on anything else. Then again, I'm now in a travel trailer so most foods are in the pantry except when I stop for a week. Then I shop for fresh.

That's the trick. Eat such things first before they can mold.

@noni1959 .......It really pays not to go shopping when you're hungry.

@celticeagle Yes. Long ago, I would buy cheese in bulk and go overboard. I've learned my lesson.

I've cut mold off of cheese; but for the most part, if something is moldy, it goes out.

Yes, I did this. It's not healthy at all. But lack of money affects us so much.

My dad has told me he has, but I haven’t. It just grossed me out too much. He has cut off moldy bits of bread and cheese to continue eating what was left. I think I remember another Mylotter saying she did that with a cookie.

I have done that with cheese. Once I think. But I have never done that with any other food. I love cheese a lot and didn't want to waste it.

I feel the same way. Usually eat it up before it has a chance to mold.

I cannot even risk anything like this. I have a very sensitive stomach and even if the slightest thing goes wrong I am in for a hard time. Lately, all has been well,
