With Linda OH sharing her photos from her trips to Key West I thought it'd be a good time to start organizing my digital photos. This week hasn't been good to be, technologically-speaking. I mentioned that I was dumping Earthlink because they keep raising the prices, while places like AOL, Google, and Yahoo all have free accounts (and, I might add, better spam control than what I'm paying for! ). Hunky dory (to keep the Bowie theme going ), except the ch-ch-ch-changes (the first song on Hunky Dory by Bowie...see what I did there? ) haven't all gone smoothly. But, thankfully, that's mostly behind me now. One of the things I tried was to get a connector so I could plug my old AirPort Time Capsule into my iPad to transfer the photos. No luck. I spent nearly three hours on the phone with Apple (one of the things I love about Apple is you can actually call them and get help!), and the first technician I talked to hadn't even heard of an AirPort Time Capsule. I admitted I was probably the only person who bought the long-since-defunct Apple product (one of their very few "failures"). Apple long ago stopped supporting it; and, although it does work nicely with my equally old MacBook, that doesn't help me get to the photos stored on it from the iPad! Long story short, the connector didn't help. I took it back to Best Buy and traded it for three 256 gigabyte flash drives that have both a USB and a C port so it can be hooked up to the iPad. That also means I can stop paying for extra cloud space, because I can offload the photos immediately. "Cloud space." I never thought about it until today, but it's basically a self-storage unit for your pics. I don't want someone holding the 42-year-old photo above of the late Robbin Thompson hostage on me, so I went with the relatively old-fashioned flash drive. The photo is from 1981. Robbin Thompson's biggest claim to fame outside of Virginia is that he was in a band with Bruce Springsteen (Steel Mill) in the early 1970s. I loved him for other reasons (such as, he co-wrote Poco's song "Find Out in Time"). Every time he was played in the Norfolk/Tidewater area and I didn't have duty when I was stationed there I'd go see him. He dealt with stomach cancer for over 15 years. Shortly before he passed away the Commonwealth of Virginia named his song "Sweet Virginia Breeze" the "contemporary state song" of Virginia. I'm glad they did that while he was alive! So I'll get back to moving the photos and cherishing the memories. Y'all have a great evening. Here's Robbin Thompson's "Sweet Virginia Breeze":

I love that you taught that technician something he didn’t know!

I would think there are younger technicians who have never answered questions about an iPod, too. And yes, I have two of them.

@AmbiePam Freaked them out when I told them I still had an iPod and, when I switched to Apple Music, I wanted to keep all the songs in iTunes.

I have sooooo many photos to go through on my PC. But I know I must do it I mean after all not even considering the photos of people but the umpteen photos of clouds passing by. So I will have to also find the time for photos and memories, Best of luck to you,

I’m taking a break this weekend because there’s a family reunion. More photos to download, though, from that.

Be careful with Cloud space, it can be hacked and people will steal all your photos. I prefer to use flash drivers or an external Hard Disk (safer) to store them. Funny photo and great idea to go through your old photos. I am scanning the slides of the past. Boring task!

That’s why I don’t want cloud space. The flash drives are bought and paid for. They won’t be asking me for money again next month to keep the space. Oh, and it’s MINE. Don’t have to worry about the cloud storage company going out of business.

@FourWalls EXACTLY! I buy my flash drives and no one can come later to ask me more money. With all the hackers around we also risk that the cloud space is hacked and we lose everything saved there.

I have two back-ups for my tons of photos. An external drive is one, along with the cloud. The free Apple help does come in handy. Don't know the song. Another happy one to hear.

It’s a Virginia thing. Can’t tell you how many times I listened to this song when driving into Virginia after coming back from leave. It’s what started me doing a “travelogue” playlist.
