An unexpected bonus

Last weekend the local council organised a village litter-pick, and since we were around and have missed the event the last couple of times they’ve organised one, I felt obliged to go along. Turned out it was just as well I did as only five people showed up! (village population a little over 4,000). Anyway I was making my way along one road collecting up a few crisp packets etc when outside one house I saw three folding chairs, the wooden ‘director’s chair’ style, standing on the verge. They were very faded but they were just what I wanted, I’ve been looking for some nice chairs I can revamp because, apart from the folding chair I repaired a year or so ago, we currently have a set of the folding chairs that are so ubiquitous these days (see link) which are easy to fold up and carry but impossible to repair because of the way they’re made. As we hate to throw away anything remotely usable we keep using them although the ‘arms’ have broken off two which leaves the metal part just sticking out. Also the fabric has a sort of plastic coating which is coming off, so every time we use them we get little bits of plastic everywhere which is annoying and is also contributing to the burden of microplastic pollution of course Well these chairs were obviously left out for the taking but of course I couldn’t take them with me just then, so I thought I’d knock on the door and ask the owner if I could leave them inside their garden gate and come back for them later. So I went to the front door and found they had one of those ‘Ring’ doorbells – I rang the bell and a disembodied voice told me they were away but to just help myself to the chairs. I asked if I could come later and the man said yes and he also had another broken one (ripped canvas) I could have as well if I wanted. So I stacked them neatly in the garden and went back with the car later in the afternoon. I’m now the proud owner of some rather nice chairs – or at least I will be once I’ve treated the wood and given them some new canvas (yet another thing to add to my ‘to-do’ list). And that wasn’t all! https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/camping/camping-furniture/chairs/folding-chair-plain-p11446.aspx/Khaki/?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=All+Products+-+Desktop+-+BING+SHOPPING+-+UK&utm_term=&utm_content=UZsgdXza|pcrid|76416157315332|pkw||pmt|be|pdv|c|slid||product|021756026001|&msclkid=de794310b5df1e0e76c3278fe3a0f581 All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2023.

Once I find some nice canvas I'm sure I'll be posting about the revamped versions in due course : )

That’s wonderful! I know you’re going to make them look amazing, and you can also use this situation as another example for the blog I hope you eventually start. ‘Cause it’s not like you’re already incredibly busy or anything.

Do you really think I should? I've thought about it now and then but I don't seem to have a particular topic and blogs generally seem to focus on one subject area, like recipes or beauty.

@Fleura I don’t know how to promote blogs myself, but you have such a wide array of interests and talent that I know it would be great. I don’t see how it couldn’t be.

Those are good chairs, once you treat the wood and replace the canvas they will look great.

@Fleura Those chairs are comfortable if you use also a pillow and they do not take a lot of space when you fold them.

I've read about the bonus! The chairs we take to the horse rides look like the ones in the link. Thankfully, they haven't started to disintegrate yet.

I think these will be good once I've got some new canvas and treated the wood. No doubt I'll be posting about them on here!

@JudyEv I think they have a sort of rod that slides in. Must investigate further!

@Fleura Some of these types of chairs have the canvas laced while others have tacks to hold the fabric in place. What will you do?

It was nice of you to pick litter...and you scored some chairs in the bargain! Enjoy your weekend.
