A second surprise!

I reported the other day about how I went out litter picking and came home with the promise of a set of garden chairs to refurbish.
When I asked – via the Ring doorbell – if it was OK to leave the chairs and come back for them later, the occupant, who of course could see me, said ‘Yes that’s fine, I know who you are, I used to be the school caretaker’.
I replied ‘Oh yes I remember you, and you used to keep chickens, do you still have them?’ and he said ‘Yes I have two – do you want them? I’m looking for a new home for them’.
Turned out they had a new puppy, a Dachshund, and the poor thing was being attacked by the chickens (which are the closest living relatives of T. rex, remember).
I had previously decided that now we were down to one chicken, Bluebell, I wouldn’t bother to get any more since the girls are not bothered so it’s down to me to do the work, and when we go away we have to keep looking for chicken-sitters. But of course I was too soft-hearted to say no.
So in return for a couple of hours of community-minded litter-picking I gained a set of potentially nice chairs and two chickens, now named Violet and Teasel!

It's a good thing she didn't have a horse to get rid of! I hope you enjoy Violet and Teasel. Have a great day.

You're lucky to live where you can have backyard chickens... free eggs and free manure

@Fleura My drunk uncle (most families have one it seems) used to return home after a night on the razzle with all sorts. He bought a fur coat to placate my aunt that had fleas (coat, not aunt) and was made to sleep in the garage with the coat as a blanket. Several “pedigree” greyhounds appeared as well.

I haven´t had chicken for decades as there´s noroom here, but they are lovely. One of the first ones I had, (over 50 years ago) flew to the top of the fridge every morning and laid an egg there.
