Day 363 (Ezekiel 24:15-27) Also, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with one stroke, yet you will neither mourn nor weep, nor will your tears run down. Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead; bind your turban on your head, and put your sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips, and do not eat man’s bread of sorrow.” So, I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died; and the next morning I did as I was commanded. And the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things signify to us, that you behave so?” Then I answered them, “The word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘Speak to the house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, your arrogant boast, the desire of your eyes, the delight of your soul; and your sons and daughters whom you left behind will fall by the sword. And you will do as I did; you will not cover your lips nor eat man’s bread of sorrow. Your turbans will be on your heads and your sandals on your feet; you will neither mourn nor weep, but you will pine away in your iniquities and mourn with one another. ‘Thus, Ezekiel is a sign to you; according to all that he did you will do; and when this comes, you will know that I am the Lord GOD.’” ‘And you, son of man—will it not be in the day when I take from them their stronghold, their joy, and their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that on which they set their minds, their sons and their daughters: on that day one who escapes will come to you to let you hear it with your ears; on that day your mouth will be opened to him who escaped; you will speak and no longer be mute. Thus, you will be a sign to them, and they will know that I am the LORD.’” When someone you know acts strangely, do you ask them why they acted that way? God had been giving Ezekiel His judgments on the houses of Israel and Judah. He told him that when He did those things, they would know He was the LORD. Then came the time when God told him He would take his wife from him. When He did, the people asked Ezekiel why it happened. God told them Ezekiel would be a sign to them because He would take their stronghold, their joy, their glory, and the desire of their eyes from them. When He did, they would know He was the LORD. Many Christians go through troubles and crises in their lives. When they do, they pray for Satan to take his hands off their lives, not realizing that sin lies with them and God is judging them for their actions. What are you facing? Do you know whether your heart is right before God? Or are you holding onto a secret sin? It’s time to get honest with yourself. Search your heart, confess your secret sins, and watch God work in your life to bring joy back and take your trouble away. Let’s pray: Father, search me and know my heart. See if there is any wickedness in me and cleanse me from my sin. Let me know Your joy and love. Let me praise You because You are my God and I love You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
