Dad Broke My Whistle

Yes, this is another childhood memory that I've never forgotten. Dad used to take his family for a Sunday drive in the car. This was something we always enjoyed, spending quality time together with Mom and Dad. Sometimes we saw deer frolicking out in a field, a farmer's cattle up beside a fence or horses grazing in a pasture. I was about five at this certain time and had just learned how to whistle. Standing behind my father on the drivers side, I proceeded to hang my face over Dad's shoulder. I loved my dad! Two times he forewarned me, "Kharla, please stop whistling in my ear." But, the third time(I'd forgotten again) my father's right hand came up and effectively smacked me in the mouth:( Hey, this jogged my memory, it worked perfectly after this happened! Yup, Dad had broken my whistle. It stopped abruptly, I didn't need another reminder. Photo: Borrowed from Pixabay

@kobesbuddy It's often like that in families - or at least it used to be.

Yes, and as I got older, Dad and I became best of friends. We shared God's love, for 56 years:)

A smack like that would stop anyone from whistling. I guess you also broke his patience.

I was the recipient of a slap if I misbehaved. I was a very well behaved child. Enjoy your day.

@kobesbuddy Nowadays you have to be so careful how you discipline your children.

@LindaOHio Taking time out, to think about what the child did wrong. I worked at a daycare center and this means of discipline is useless! A spat on their butt, they will remember it. We could never do this, or I would have gotten fired.

@kobesbuddy I couldn’t count the spankings and whippings I got. My mama laid it on.
