Gonna have a “winter fun” kitchen

I cleared our everything from the kitchen cabinets and countertop. Thought the contractor may start work today. But he only came to discuss what we want done. He will start work either Friday or Monday. I guess that is good.
We have to go look at stone for the countertop anyway. And tile for the floor and maybe backsplash, if there won’t be enough stone for the backsplash after it’s used for the countertop. Getting an entire second piece of stone just for backsplash is a waste of money as it costs thousands of dollars.
I think countertop should be darker than cabinets and floor should match the countertop. Our cabinets will be “winter fun.” That’s the sample we chose. We have to pick everything else—wall color, tile, and countertop—based on that.
Seems the guy will have to get that huge thing (forgot what it’s called) where they dump all the garbage from construction / remodel into and then haul away. I bet it’s gonna cost a lot of money to do that but we don’t have a choice. Doesn’t seem like we can just throw everything out to the curb for sanitation to pick up.

A rolloff dumpster? We've had a couple of those. Good luck making all of the choices. Enjoy your day.

Maybe that’s the name. When our neighbor remodeled his house he had that thing in his driveway. Hope it’s not too expensive to get and haul away.

@lovebuglena They aren't too bad. Your parents are paying for the remodel, aren't they?

Personally, I always have enjoyed colorful kitchens. My kitchen in Latvia was sunny yellow but here the walls are with panels so I had not choice of color, I hope you enjoy your new kitchen,

My parents had a red kitchen back in Belarus. It looked nice but it may be too much to do that here.

They just call it a large dumpster, and according to people who've had it done, you can wind up paying per day to just have it in your home and it comes from your local garbage place.

Wow! If per day, I wonder how many days we will need it for.

There’s several names for that: roll-off dumpster, open dumpster, construction dumpster, etc. Many places mandate that those are used for renovations and remodels to ensure that the debris doesn’t end up with regular curbside trash pick up. In a lot of places construction debris goes to different processing facilities or different landfills than regular household trash.

@lovebuglena Usually a permit is needed. But usually the contractor handles that and it’s usually already built into your price.

So dumpster it is then. I hope one doesn’t need a permit to put it in their driveway.

@moffittjc it’s good if that’s the case. Don’t want to deal with that.

@lovebuglena I spent about 1,500 on fixing my front porch and over 5 thousand to fix my bathroom. I'm done spending big chunks of change for this year.

You don’t need to be a billionaire to do that lol.

It can be stressful picking out tiles, etc. The end result will be worth it I'm sure.

It is especially when both people have to agree on it.
