One drawback

That tree on the west side of my house gave us afternoon shade.
It is going to feel warmer with it gone.
I noticed that right away. When the cleaning up business is all done I will be getting some kind of deciduous tree, and planting it far enough from the house that it will not cause damage.
We are thinking American Chestnut. It is a hardwood and it grows really fast.
Training for my school job that we have to do yearly has already been posted. If I do it quickly I get an extra paid day of vacation over Christmas break.
These trainings are things like anti bullying and suicide prevention and universal precautions and FERPA, which is about student and family rights to privacy.
Any other hours I might need are already covered by the training I did this summer.

We had shade trees that blocked the sun on the West side of our last house. Nothing blocks the evening sun here and the house gets HOT! Even if the day is only mild outside, the West sun makes us turn the air on when it starts hitting the windows on that side of the house.

We have sun-blocking drapes that we close on the sunny side of the house. Keeps the house really much cooler.

@LindaOHio We have sun-blocking drapes in every room in the house and they don't stop the house from getting much too hot.

@DaddyEvil I'm sorry. Do you have air conditioning, I hope?

They are useful and remind us to be careful about what we say and also there was one focused on the challenges of homelessness and getting an education and staying in school.

@GardenGerty I can't imagine being in the education stream these days. My corner of the world has a gigantic issue with homelessness.

I'd never heard of those so looked it up and found that they're not native to Texas and are "now dying probably from the spread of the fungal disease Diplodia pinea. (USDA Forest Disease Leaflet 161) "

True, they aren't native to Texas but here they thrive because our climate is hot and dry and there aren't any forests where a disease like that could thrive.

I do not think they are any messier than any other tree that will drop its leaves. There is a place about two hours from here that grows them for a crop. That is, they sell the chestnuts.

I hope you find a nice tree; and I hope you get your extra day of vacation. Enjoy your day.

Those training courses sound like incredibly valuable information to have in a heck of a lot of vocations.
I’m sure picking your own tree will be fun. Obviously, it would be nice if it were under different circumstances, but it’s a nice plus.

We have been talking about chestnut trees for several years. I also have places I would like fruit trees. I may have to come up with the money to have the cedar on the east taken out.

What exactly does the acronym FERPA stand for?
And why not plant a fruit tree?

Family Education Rights of Privacy Act. I want some fruit trees on the west as well. We like chestnuts and they grow faster so the one in front would need to be chestnut.

I like getting the trainings in before school starts. Not everyone will but I have found that it works best for me.

This is helpful because it helps us know about specific laws and procedures for our state.

I know that the anti bullying training is required by the state for all the schools. It is good to be mindful of how we present to students and how we model for them to treat each other.

@GardenGerty I agree. Bullying is something that should never be allowed to happen in schools.

Yes you most definitely need something that will give you shade, once the sun starts to go down it gets so hot in here and we can't block the window because of the fans..
Training sounds awful...I'm glad that some hours are already covered.

I do not mind the training. Can you at least shield or shade the parts of your windows above the fans?
