Day 7
Hosea 9:1 Do not rejoice, O Israel, with joy like other peoples, for you have played the harlot against your God. You have made love for hire on every threshing floor.
People don’t need a reason to go out and have a fun time. They throw parties for any reason. Yet they are not happy.
God brought a prophecy of judgment against Israel and Judah through Hosea before He sent them into captivity and told them not to rejoice like the other nations around them who worshiped other gods. He told them their actions were like those of a harlot. They embraced all the traditions of the nations surrounding Israel. Yet, God still sought her and wanted her to return to Him.
Many Christians believe they can do whatever they want if they acknowledge God and give Him His due one day a week, and not even for a day, but for an hour. Then they went their way and rejoiced because they sat in His presence and listened to a sermon, they could not remember the moment they stepped outside the church doors.
God wants your whole heart, not only part of it. When you said ‘yes’ to Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you said you would obey Him and commit your life to Him. Yet your commitment was only in words, not in action. You have no reason to rejoice.
When you confess your sin and return to God, He will return to you. He will forgive you and you will be His child, beloved and precious in His sight.
When you spend time in God’s presence with other believers, you know those who truly acknowledge Him and spend time with Him every day. You know those who spend time in prayer and Bible study because their words and actions will prove their love and obedience to Him. Are you one of those believers who committed their hearts, souls, and minds to God to walk in His ways and know His love for them? Then rejoice because God is your Father. Rejoice and let your joy show itself in everything you do.
Let’s pray: Father, let me rejoice in You because You are my God. Let me be among those who spend time in Your presence every day, to seek You with my whole heart and know Your love for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Yes, we really should stick to our living our lives by God's commandments, and not make excuses, and lessen our following of them for petty reasons, such as our following the tenants of other religious beliefs too.
We should be happy with our God, and joyous in our following of him, rather than our trying to take joy from elsewhere, such as on threshing floors.
