Canal boat rides

Both in Venice and Amsterdam the tourists could take boat rides in canals that gave them an opportunity to see around the city and at the same time enjoy the rides. The sad part is the canal water is dirty as the sewage is connected to canals. I would not have taken that ride in Amsterdam had I known about this but the guide talks about it while on the ride Needless to say I did not enjoy that ride at all. I did not take that ride in Venice as I was wiser this time as looking at the water one could see that the water was dirty but the others in the group did not mind that at all. Would you take a ride if you knew the water was dirty? Image credit:

I doubt if it was but the fact that it contained sewage did not make me comfortable

@allknowing It might detract from my pleasure as well. This was the case in both Venice and Amsterdam?

@TheHorse Yes. It was. Gondola rides in Venice did not look good to me. Venice is loaded with canals

I might have gone considering it is a once in a lifetime thing, unless I could smell the water. Could you smell anything?

I wouldn't. We went on a boat ride in Leipzig and I saw my first capybaras.

@allknowing They are the world's largest rodent and have been introduced from South America. These were sunning themselves on the bank.

No I would avoid taking a boat ride in a canal if the water was dirty for health reasons.
