Last Thursday was the 11th week of art class, and we were doing a window box in acrylics.
My taxi came at 1:25pm, so that was good, and he came in an ordinary car not a mini bus which I was glad about because it was easier to get in!
I was the first one there, and it was ages before any one else arrived. I got myself a cup of green tea and a chocolate biscuit and went and sat down. Paul arrived at about 1:55pm and I said to him, "Are we going to be the only ones?" But the rest of the class arrived just in time.
The tutor, Tina, had lost her voice, and she was having trouble getting us to hear her as she was demonstrating what we would be doing. She said we didn't need to use a ruler to draw the window but now I wish I had because it looks a bit crooked as you can see from the picture above!
When she'd demonstrated, we went to choose which picture we wanted to copy from. I chose the same picture as was on the handout. Then, instead of taping the paper down, I drew a frame round the edge. Then I drew my window and window box. I started by putting some yellow in the background and then some light blue in the background. I went over those with white to lighten them and to make the wall look old. Then I started on the window frame with a slightly darker blue. I did the panes of glass in a kind of mauve colour, then took some white and added it at the top and pulled down to make the kind of effect of reflections in the glass. Then I did the darker elements on the window frame. Then I did the shutters by adding some of the light blue making sure the pencil marks still showed through to make it look like shutters.
Then I started on the flowers in the window box. I did the darkest greens first, then a kind of bluey green, then the lighter green. After that I put in the darkest red of the flowers, then a lighter red, and finally the pink. Then I called it finished and I signed it. I managed to get most of the paint off my hands with a wet wipe!
We put our pictures on the floor to admire as usual. I saw my taxi arrive. Then the tutor told us what we will be doing next week, our final week of painting. It's a street scene in Provence apparently, and it looks really hard!
I packed my stuff away and went and got in my taxi. When I got home I had my dinner and watched some telly. There was no need to do anything more to my painting, because it was already finished.
You can see the painting above as I stated, but as you can see it does look a bit lob sided!

@sharonelton Just barely, and I think it gives character.

@sharonelton Great job! It's quite methodical painting, knowing in what order to tackle things. I look forward to the street scene.

Thank you very much, that's very kind of you. Yes, it helps to know what order you're going to do things in. I had to wait a little bit here and there for the paint to dry.

Yes, I saw some of the pictures that we could be copying from, and they do look quite complicated.
