Generation Gap

While the older generation is stuck in their old ways, the younger generation is getting further away what with technology that tempts them.
Gone are the days when grand children sat with their grand parents listening to their stories that they found extremely interesting and that was a beautiful sight to see. That is history now.
Rather than the younger generation wanting to listen to the older generation it is time
the older generation tries to get into technology themselves so that there is better bonding.
How is the bonding with your older and younger generations?

As part of the older generation I find it hard to relate to a lot of the stuff my grandkids talk about (which is 99% social media related).

Wonder what their plight will be when they get old.

@allknowing since they spend 99% of their time staring at their phones they probably won't be able to talk to people in person. I think they'll be smarter in some respects but dumber in others

I dislike the fact that the younger generation can be so self-absorbed and addicted to their devices. Then again, every older generation would have something to say about the younger generation and vice versa. My husband and I try to connect with our Gen Z kids and see things from their point of view and correct them if need be. It's not easy but I think the older and more mature people should always bear that responsibility.

I remember when someone asked a youngster how a certain thing worked she was told that she should be fine just putting the lights on and off

That seems to be the trend nowadays as older generations try to catch up with the technology and they can better relate with the younger generation if they do that. Connection may not be as intimate as before but I think they have their pros and cons too.

@allknowing Yes they can adjust with the times or if they stay with the traditions they will be left aside as the generations of today is so hooked with the technology of today.

I think it wise for the older generation to try to relate to the younger. It seems like we always put the onus on the younger people, but it would greatly benefit the older generation to be familiar with what drives people younger than them.
Of course, that doesn’t mean younger people shouldn’t make an effort to bridge the gap, but it would be helpful to meet halfway.

There needs to be a common ground and the question is what that common ground could be

My children loved to listen to stories. I don't have grandchildren and therefore can't say what they would like. However I have seen tiny tots fidgeting with smartphone, watching cartoons.

I just had some visitors the other day and while the adults were busy interacting the child was busy with his smart phone least bothered about anything else.

@allknowing We have to keep a watch on tiny tots as they sometimes damage the smartphone by dropping it from their little hands.
