Day 11 Jonah 2:1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish’s belly. 2 And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, and He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol, I cried, and You heard my voice. 3 For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods surrounded me; all Your billows and Your waves passed over me. 4 Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight, yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’ 5 The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; the deep closed around me; weeds were wrapped around my head. 6 I went down to the moorings of the mountains; the earth with its bars closed behind me forever; yet You brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God. 7 When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer went up to You, into Your holy temple. 8 Those who regard worthless idols forsake their own Mercy. 9 But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.” 10 So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. What do you do when life overwhelms you and you don’t know where to turn? Where do you turn to for help? Jonah fled from God and the mission He gave him. When the sea grew furious because of him, Jonah told the mariners to throw him into the sea. When they did, the sea calmed. However, God sent a fish to swallow Jonah. After three days, Jonah prayed and made vows to God and declared he would make sacrifices to God with thanksgiving because he knew salvation belonged to God. Many Christians know what they’re supposed to do but hope to escape God’s call on their life and hope God will send someone else in their place. Yet God has a purpose for everyone. He will not allow them to escape His calling. When they realize their sin, praise and thanksgiving pour forth from them and they know everyone is worthy of salvation. Do you know God’s call on your life? Do not hesitate to answer and perform His purpose for you. You don’t know what God intends in what He purposed. Therefore, praise God for giving you the opportunity to go where He leads. Give thanks for calling you and go with a willing heart to do His will. Then you will know God’s blessing when you obey Him and pour out your thanksgiving to Him. Let’s pray: Father, You called me Your child when I accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord. You have a purpose for me. Let me obey You in everything with praise and thanksgiving, knowing that in You alone is salvation, mercy, and forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. This story shows us that even when we find ourselves in the unlikeliest of places, we can still pray to God, and God will still help us. It was a miracle that Jonah was not killed within the fish's belly by the stomach acids there, or from the lack of air for him to breathe. Three days is a long time to spend inside a fish.

It shows God was in charge of the situation.

@innertalks Could be, but Jesus also used it when He talked about how long He would be in the earth before His resurrection.

@just4him Jonah did pray to God from within the fish's belly, which prompted God to take action. Maybe, God might have let him stay there a bit longer, if Jonah had not prayed to God, like that.
