Found the Leak in my Kayak

It didn't take long to find the leak once I laid the kayak out in the garage and filled the air chamber that was losing air on the lake the other day. The garage was quiet enough that the air streaming out made a loud enough noise to draw my attention right away. A visual exam quickly allowed me to zero in on the site of the leak. I was expecting a pinhole. This is more than a pinhole. How this cut in the skin of the chamber came about is a mystery. I have patched the spot and am waiting the required 30 minutes or more before attempting to reinflate the chamber. I'm hoping it holds. I will only be using it on one or two more camping trips this year. Then, maybe, Santa can bring me a new one for Christmas.

Santa will bring you a new one if you have been good.

@DWDavis Ok I know it's hard for men to be good.

It looks like the kayak was dragged over some sharp rocks, maybe when you were beaching it. I'm glad you found the hole and hope the patch does a good job.

@DaddyEvil I'm thinking it might have happened when I took it from the campsite to the lake in the back of my truck and the kayak was already inflated. I'll have to make sure that can't happen again.

Oddly enough, the hole is on the upper part of the chamber. That's what's so confusing about it.

I hope so, too, or I could get quite wet on our paddle trip in a couple of weeks.

It held for an hour yesterday after I pumped the chamber up to full pressure. As long as it holds when I'm on the water, I'll be happy.

@Tampa_girl7 I hope so. Now that I've found a solution for the seat problem, I'm rather fond of my kayak.

Leaks can be incredibly hard to find sometimes. I hope the patch 'takes' as it should.

I thought I was in for an arduous search. Luckily, the leak revealed itself quickly.

If it doesn't, I may be swimming in Jordan Lake in a couple of weeks.

@LindaOHio I'll be okay. The other two air chambers will keep me afloat and I always were a flotation vest. *pats his belly* Plus, I'm naturally buoyant.

Is it like patching a bike inner tube?

Quite similar. I sure have patched a few inner tubes in my day.
