Leviticus

In my devotional, I am, currently, reading through the Old Testament book of Leviticus. Since I was about 12 years old, I have read through the whole Bible many times. I love reading the Bible, however, the book of Leviticus is one of my least favorites.
1. It is, somewhat, hard to understand. It is kind of mechanical and legalistic. And that is its purpose. But it just makes it hard to understand in places.
2. It is gruesome. The graphic nature of the sacrificial system evokes such emotion in an emotion-based person, that is causes me to quickly scan through those scriptures instead of absorbing and diving into it.
3. It is repetitive. It is almost like if you have read one chapter, you have read them all.
However, God has matured me and enlightened me. Now, as I read through the book, I am reading as I read the other books- to truly understand and grasp the message God is giving. I must admit, I still struggle, but I am beginning to understand more about God and His love and mercy and holiness. I must always remember to pray before opening His Word. That is when He opens my mind and heart and grants understanding.
