Fridges in Public: Can You Believe it?!?

I'm not sure if it is a good idea to have people in Europe use their money to pay the electric bills for these fridges in public. In this world, everything has both good and bad sides. To prevent food waste, they developed a scheme called "Free-Go's" that allows them to leave some goods in the refrigerators for an hour after delivery. I was trying to determine whether it was sustainable. It will definitely keep me from having leftovers, I'm certain of it. How do you feel about Free-Go's public refrigerators? Would you like to see public refrigerators put in your city or town? Image Credit: imagevars.gulfnews.com

I don't understand why anyone would do that. Just freeze the leftovers and eat it yourself later.

I also wondered, too. It would be more ideal if it is during the pandemic. Many people can have some for free. Now, we can just use our own fridge or even the freezer for the leftovers.

@DaddyEvil You couldn´t even sell a mattress online during the pandemic.

@Shavkat Nobody would have used it during the pandemic... or shouldn't use it any time since germs can stick around on surfaces for a while. I always make too much just so I do have leftovers to freeze and eat later.

Not sure about this idea. Someone would need to be responsible for the upkeep and making sure the products are safe.

You have a point here. The only thing that I know of is that these foods should be released before one hour upon delivery.

@Shavkat That makes sense for sure.

Yes, I would like to see them, less wasted food given to people in need. The cost is very little I think it would be a great idea.

In my view, it is feasible since the donated food can only stay for an hour. It is most likely that they can be shared and received who needs them.

@Shavkat It is a very good idea, instead of wasting food that is still good.

I like the idea of food being left in a refrigerator outside.

I don't need a public refrigerator. I bring my groceries straight home and put in my refrigerator.

I also think that it would be hassle if going out and have some from the fridges in public. To prevent from wasting of food, I just buy ingredients needed for cooking certain meals at home.

It would be useful for people like my maid who can't afford a fridge.

I also think so. I haven't seen such a system in my country, except during the pandemic. The locals were able to set raw food stations in certain places to avail them for free.

@Shavkat That was a good arrangement. At least people didn't have to go without food.

We also do the same thing here. Some people claimed that they are tastier when reheating the and serve on the table.

As long as the food is still good that would be a very good idea.

I think it would be great not to waste food. It does makes sense in preventing to throw them away. Unless, if they want the raw food to be their composition for plants, especially vegetables.

For me, I usually use rotten veggies for the plants as fertilizer thing. Soon, I am planning to plant vegetables in our new abode's garden.

I've seen some fridges like that here. I didn't find out how they were used though.

I am glad that you had seen them there. I was also puzzled why they don't allow frozen food to put in them. I had read it from the article.

I am not sure I understand the concept of this. I'd have to know more to have an opinion.

I think that people here in the US are more aware than ever how much food is costing. Most people I know are careful not to waste food, it gets eaten, or saved for the next day, or put in the freezer for another time. Often it's turned into another dish. I think it's nice to share if a person has extra. I would not want to have to pay for the refrigeration, I would think this could be part of a government program.

I am like them. There are times that I buy only needed ingredients in small markets near my place. I don't need to buy a lot from the public market. It is a good option not to waste food.

After delivery to whom? We have little free pantries for shelf staple food where people in need can take food to help them out. But no public fridges that I know of.

Might be a good idea for people who need food.
