Day 30
Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will obtain mercy.
You hear a lot about bullying taking place in the world today. It isn’t confined to the classroom. You can find it in the home, workplace, or wherever people gather. There isn’t a heart of compassion in those who bully others. They enjoy seeing people suffer from their taunts.
Jesus said blessed are the merciful, those who show compassion, for they will find compassion shown to them.
Even among Christians, you see bullying taking place in the body of Christ. People who know God’s Word make fun of those who don’t. They go around with a haughty attitude as though they were better than everyone else. In Jesus’ day, they were called Pharisees because they made certain everyone knew how much they prayed, how well-versed in the Law they were, how much they gave to the temple, and much more. You see the same attitude displayed in the church today.
Jesus gave the people a rule to follow. Today we call it the Golden Rule.
Matthew 7:12 “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (NKJV)
When you show compassion to others, people will show compassion to you. Someone will always stand up for the downtrodden. They will take up a cause to see that people are taken care of and no harm comes to them.
What kind of person are you? Do you make certain people know how much of the Bible you know? Are people aware of how much you pray? Or is your attitude one of humility? You don’t put your knowledge on display for the world to see. You spend your time in prayer and Bible study, studying to be approved by God, not man.
Scripture says Jesus often went up into the mountains to pray, alone. He wasn’t showy. Jesus taught the people in a way that made them see the Law in a way the scribes never did, with authority.
Matthew 7:28 When Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Present yourself with a humble attitude, with a compassionate heart, and you will find people drawn to you because of your attitude of mercy.
James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. (NKJV)
1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
6 Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
When your attitude is one of mercy, God will bless you.
Let’s pray: Father, give me a compassionate heart. Take away any haughtiness You find in me and let me be submissive to those in authority as unto You. Let me show mercy, compassion, and forgiveness to everyone. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

One of my mantras is do unto others as you would like them to do unto you. I try my best to live my life like that. Have a blessed day.
