Quartz or granite?

We still haven't gotten our countertop for the kitchen. We went to a warehouse to look at the slabs. Initially we went there to look for quartz but we noticed they had granite as well so checked those out too. After looking at many slabs of quartz and granite we settled on three granite and only one quartz. Looking back at the pics we narrowed down the granite to one. Now it's between quartz and granite. Which to get? I think I'd want natural stone. But which is better?

Both are nice! I would probably more apt for quartz, just because I have seen too many granite tops in my life (my father was a tile setter, so I have seen/helped put in too many granite tops) but granite also has it's own charm! I guess it all just depends on the colors and such what you are going for!

We got a quote for one quartz and three different granite. All granite turned out to be less than quartz.

@DesirousDreamer I think we will stick with granite. We saw more slabs today at a different place. Found a few will like. Will see how much we will get quoted for for slab and installation.

Quartz. Take it from an avid HGTV watcher, and niece of an interior designer who likes to tell me what is “in”. But seriously, if you like the granite, go for it. Quartz is more popular right now, and generally more durable, but granite could be just as popular tomorrow as it was two years ago. You can’t really go wrong as long as marble never tempts you.

I heard that granite you have to seal whereas quartz you do not. I keep going back and forth between granite and quartz.

It's nice but I prefer natural stone. Marble is out of course so granite it is.

I think granite looks better but it all depends on what you like.

If you want natural stone you should go with granite. I told you in another post that my countertop is granite, installed 35 years ago and still perfect.

@lovebuglena Often the places you visit suggest what is more convenient for them to sell, not what is the best for you.

Initially we were looking for granite but places we went to said to go with quartz so we looked at that. But after going to a warehouse and finding granite we like we kinda want to go with granite.

The quote we got for from our fabricator, including installation, granite was in the $3000 range but quartz in the $4000.

We went with quartz a few years ago and we've been very happy with it.

My current home has granite countertops. My previous home had quartz countertops. I liked them both, each had their own qualities, so I think at the end of the day what you pick will depend on what you like most in the stone.

@moffittjc we first have to finally pull the trigger and get a slab already. Waiting on our second fabricator to call me with estimates. Have a feeling I probably have to call them myself. First place never called me so I called them.

We decided to stick with granite, which is what we originally wanted. Now it's just a matter of picking which slab we want. We looked at actual slabs at two different warehouses (if that's what they are called). And we have a different fabricator for each warehouse. One already gave us an estimate. The other hasn't yet as we just went to the second warehouse today. Will see how the total prices will be there. The first one was in the mid-high $3000 range for slab and installation.

I say quartz. What color are you leaning towards?

Light colors. Maybe a mix of gray and white.

Quartz might be the better choice. I don't know. I wish I could see the samples! Enjoy the new week.

@LindaOHio I want it to have character. Not many empty spots. I like lines that swerve in different directions.
