I cannot get over what I watched last night. It was portrayed in the movie Hawksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson in 2016. The soldier, Desmond T. Doss, did not use any sort of weapon during the battle on Okinawa in 1945. A true story that inspired moviegoers. Despite being a US Army soldier without carrying or using a weapon, he was able to save 75 men.
Do you watch movies that are based on true stories?

I love movies based on true stories, but so often the movies are embellished to a great degree. I doubt the one you watched was exaggerated too much since he really did save that many people. My favorite movies based on true stories are: A Hiding Place, Hoosiers, Apollo 13, Argo, and Chariots of Fire. There are a lot of good ones out there.

Doss did not carry a weapon because he was a medic whose religious beliefs wouldn't allow him to fight. However, this didn't stop him from going into battle to save others.
Here is an excellent article comparing the movie Hacksaw Ridge to the true story.
