A Soldier Without a Weapon

I cannot get over what I watched last night. It was portrayed in the movie Hawksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson in 2016. The soldier, Desmond T. Doss, did not use any sort of weapon during the battle on Okinawa in 1945. A true story that inspired moviegoers. Despite being a US Army soldier without carrying or using a weapon, he was able to save 75 men.  Do you watch movies that are based on true stories? Image Credit: upload.wikimedia.org

I love movies based on true stories, but so often the movies are embellished to a great degree. I doubt the one you watched was exaggerated too much since he really did save that many people. My favorite movies based on true stories are: A Hiding Place, Hoosiers, Apollo 13, Argo, and Chariots of Fire. There are a lot of good ones out there.

You have a point. There were some scenes that were exaggerated to make the scenes spicier to be watched.

Yes, it is. I also do the same thing. It happens that I was able to do it without any hesitations.

@RubyHawk I must agree. It is not easy to find true stories. That is why I am trying my way to find classic ones in YouTube lately.

Doss did not carry a weapon because he was a medic whose religious beliefs wouldn't allow him to fight. However, this didn't stop him from going into battle to save others. Here is an excellent article comparing the movie Hacksaw Ridge to the true story.
