Lactose Intolerance- How well can your body tolerate dairy ?

August 22, 2023 9:03am CST
My body tolerates milk very well until I travelled to south africa when I started having lactose intolerance especially to powder milk. I dont understand why the milk there is different from one in my country. Do you also suffer from lactose intolerance sometimes and how do you handle it?

I can eat mature cheese because they become lactose free, I do not tolerate milk.

@ogbenishyna I only buy pasteurized milk. And I don't really drink a glass of it. More use it in recipes and in my oatmeal, or in my lattes.

You could have possibly developed IBS due to stomach infection or other reasons. Lactose is a FODMAP, a fermentable sugar that is not well tolerated for those who have IBS or similar medical conditions. Fat content is another possibility as many toxins are fat soluble.

In America, we pasteurize our dairy, so it keeps longer. Another thing is humans all of the husbands are not designed to actually be able to drink cow's milk. Our bodies were designed to be able to digest and process our own mother's milk. So, it's not uncommon for anyone and everyone to have issues drinking or having cow's milk, especially in a place where the milk has been cultured and pasteurized to make it safer for our body to process but still that process doesn't make it any easier for our bodies to break it down and digest it well.

@ogbenishyna Pasteurization doesn't stop anything. Lactose and a natural enzyme in cow's milk. That process just helps clean the milk out not remove protein and enzymes but heating the milk up for a lot of people that are lactose intolerant can change the protein because some people heating the milk will change the proteins within the cow's milk and the body can then process it in your digestive system but that doesn't work for everyone. Natural humans are not designed to take in cow's milk no matter how you take that cow's milk. It's also not needed to live or survive a lot of the proteins and vitamins in cow's milk can be found in our everyday diet like carrots.

Can pasteurization really stop lactose intolerance?

I can handle small amounts of real milk in ice cream and cooking but if I eat too much, I'll start throwing up and having diarrhea. I usually use almond milk in the cooking and with cereal so I don't have a problem. (I can eat a small ice cream cone but that's it in a day or two.)

@ogbenishyna It tastes nutty and kind of sweet-ish. I don't drink it. I only use it in cereal and cooking.

No, I'm not lactose intolerance. But I think my boyfriend is. When I went to visit him this past Christmas, he got me some lactose free milk.

@ogbenishyna I don't think he realized it was lactose free. I drink chocolate milk every day and I requested some when he went to grocery store.

@JESSY3236 Oh that might be true. Some people only have lactose issues after the drink high amount of milk.

I have no problem with dairy, but it doesn’t settle well with my sister. She can’t eat any dairy unless she’s near a bathroom.

I know many people that do not tolerate lactose. I always buy lactose free milk to have for them. I can cook with that milk too and it tastes the same. Here they sell some cheeses that are lactose free.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to tolerate lactose. However, if I try to say "mix" eating it with other rich foods, like lean steaks or cakes, then I sometimes get an upset stomach.

that combination you mentioned will surely trigger a side effect.

I had this for a minute when I ate some food that was bad. But certain brands of milk I can eat with cereal with no problems.
