I decided a few months back to subscribe to Reader's Digest. I got my first one today. For August/September. I can remember when my grandmother used to get hers. She had stacks of them out on the porch that she had saved over the years. She had subscribed for so many years the company had given her a life-long subscription. When I was five or six and living with my grandparents my great-grandmother was living with us. She was well into her 90s and was blind. She could still stitch quilt pieces together. I used to watch her do this by the hour. Keeping busy and being productive. I took it upon myself to entertain her. With all those magazines. Even before I could read I could take one of those magazines, look at the pictures, and come up with a story to tell my great grandma Rachel. Years later I still enjoy the jokes and funny stories as well as the articles. I wonder if they still sell the Condensed Books. Remember those?

We just throw all those we had and my husband was keeping from years. We are throwing all the old magazines, no need to keep them anymore.

Those RD condensed books still show up in Value Village with pristine dust covers, so I guess they still publish them.

It's changed a little. I used to find them at the Salvation Army.

"Condensed Books"? By Reader's Digest? My mother had subscribed to Reader's Digest in early 2000s. We got complementary Story collections with some exciting stories from them too. May be I can share them some day. You had definitely a good time with your Grandma. Your Great Grandma sounds like a strong character. Nice share !

I enjoyed many condensed books. We used to find them at the second-hand stores. My grandmother was the matriarch of our family. Very strong and well respected. I miss her dearly.

Yes, I remember the Condensed Books very well. I've read quite a few of them. I haven't seen them around for years and years. Have a good weekend. P.S. Wicky Pedia says that the series was published from 1950–1997. Then it was changed to Readers Digest Select Editions.
