Kitchen will be installed though remodel not completely done

I got a call from the kitchen guy yesterday that he is ready to install the kitchen. It will be delivered today and installed tomorrow. I don’t get why it can’t all be done in one day. Even if the delivery people are not the ones installing why can’t they come on the same day? Makes no sense. And I completely forgot that tomorrow our street will have a block party so road will be closed to all vehicles. Have to tell the kitchen guy this news. I bet he won’t be happy about that. He and the installation guys can always park on a different street and walk to my house but not sure if they will want to do that. Oh, and the contractor didn’t finish doing everything in the kitchen yet. I thought he was gonna paint all the walls but he told me he won’t do that. Apparently, you don’t paint walls where cabinets will go. If it wasn’t for the kitchen guy wanting to install the kitchen this Saturday I would have told the contractor I want all the walls painted. He still didn’t completely finish painting one of the walls that won’t have cabinets. Guess he can do that later but the part of the wall is where the fridge will be. And there will be a cabinet over the fridge and a frame into which fridge will go. That means he won’t be able to paint there. And there’s a small part of the wall that needs painting. Not sure how he will do that once a cabinet goes next to it. And there are other things that need to be done as well... This rush to install the kitchen was so our contractor can install the appliances before he leaves on vacation. But they will be delivered on the day he leaves for vacation. He will be gone for three weeks I think. That means more time without appliances. That sucks. But as long as I can plug the fridge into the outlet that’s what’s important. I have other means to cook and reheat food.

that sounds like a huge headache that you're dealing with. Hope it all comes together and you'll be happy when the kitchen is done.

I hate it when things don't go as they should, when something goes wrong or there is a delay, etc. It's stressful.

Yes. And it is a headache looking for and buying stuff as well. Countertop, tile, appliances, etc.

Normally, the wall behind the fridge doesn't get painted either. I don't know why. That's just the way it goes after the initial wall is painted when the house is built. Anything that the contractor thinks will get blocked off won't get finished unless you withhold payment until it gets done to your satisfaction. (My first wife paid for all the work up-front and some stuff never did get finished. We finally had to sue the contractor and all he did was give us part of the money back. But we paid out the poop chute for the lawsuit.)

@lovebuglena Yup! The original walls are normally painted to help protect the sheetrock from steam or splashing water.

It is weird but the wall behind the fridge was originally painted. But behind the cabinets it was not. And this paint is original. When my parents bought this house they got it as is. It was new so no renovations were done.

You've been very patient throughout this whole ordeal, but what a headache it is to deal with all these delays.

@lovebuglena Maybe the whole renovation will be done by Halloween? LOL. Sorry, not meaning to laugh at this, but I can't believe how long it is taking them to complete the project.

@moffittjc this is not even that bad. The first time the kitchen guy came to look at our old kitchen was either in March or Feb of this year. And it’s only being done now.

Our contractor will continue his work and install appliances after he gets back from vacation. That will be after the 18th of September. Hopefully, we will already have our sink and will be able to order the countertop and have it be installed by then. And also we need to get the backsplash so he can put it up.

I doubt very much that the installers will want to walk down the street with the parts to you kitchen. Let us know how it goes. Try and enjoy your weekend.

All they had was a thing on wheels where they had the tools. They ended up walking.

I won't know until it is done. But total is going to be somewhere between $20,000 and $30,000 I think. That includes contractor work (demolition of old kitchen, painting, electrical, installation of tile, and whatever else needs to be done), kitchen cabinets, pantry, and installation, floor tile, wall tile, sink, countertop, appliances, etc.

Living through a renovation is such a pain, but it will be worth it when it is done. If it could only be done!

The guy that was supposed to deliver the kitchen hasn't come yet. There's been a delay due to rain, so the kitchen guy told me. When he called he told me the delivery should be in about 2-3 hours. I hope it won't be delayed even more.

Somewhat I can understand your situation. This will be the test for your patience I think . Just try to relax & your kitchen will be installed tomorrow eventhough there will be a street block tomorrow... Because I think the kitchen guys will be instructed & insisted by their Head to fix it tomorrow .So they won't get bad reviews from you .

I hate not knowing what's going on, or what will happen, or when things don't go as they should. I like for things to go smoothly.
