On Thursday my geek and her daughter were going to come over and see if Oreo, their dog, got along with Boe, my remaining dog. Boe loves both of them, but he was extremely excited to meet Oreo. More than Oreo was to meet him. However, I went out before they got there and I was sitting, watching my feral cats doing their thing. There are 4 of them. There is their mother, a fluffy fixed cat, probably female, and two kittens. Now, those two look a lot alike, but one is braver than the other. I call that one Braveheart. So far the other one I've just kind of called "the other one" but I think it'll probably be Scaredy. I call the fluffy fixed one "Fluffy" and the mother I kind of call "Mom." Well, Fluffy was kind of looking after the two kittens. Braveheart saw me sitting outside and actually approached me. No where near enough to touch me, but BH came about half way to where I was sitting. Then Mom showed up with a bird. Do NOT try and tell me about cats killing song birds. That bird was a sparrow, which, if you don't know, is actually an invasive species. I call them flying mice since I refer to pigeons as flying rats - and pigeons are another invasive species. I'm not talking about the Mexican doves, I'm talking about those fat ones you see in cities. Mom stood there and Scaredy trotted over and took the bird from her. I had thought I had seen movement before Scaredy took it away, but I guess if it were still alive, it was too badly injured to move much. Scaredy played with it some, but when my friends got there, I didn't see what happened after that. I have to say, that is a first for me. Have you seen anything like this?

I don't need more ferals, the 3 I have, plus Braveheart inside... well... I don't need more - with Braveheart it makes 8 inside.

@crazyhorseladycx when we had fields around we had rats around, but I haven't seen any because both the fields now housing apartments and a school. And cats... in fact, while I was trying catch the pair yesterday there was a very bold squirrel running around and going up and down my tree. I saw a grey cat across the street and suddenly I see a streak and the squirrel barely made it up the tree because of the grey cat. The cat walked off and the squirrel was in the tree cussing for quite some time.

I like the name Braveheart . Cats kill birds. They have predator instinct and it's natural for them. I hope that the bird was not alive and suffering for too long.

That is the brave kitten. I suspect kittens like that were how we ended up with domesticated cats.

I hope it wasn’t still alive and suffering. Cats kill birds, and that’s normal. However, I don’t like to know a living thing is lingering in pain. My grandmother’s dog used to catch and kill birds. I’ve never had a cat.

me too, but I wasn't going to go bother the feral cats, I want them to be not too scared of me... I'd like to get the 3 unfixed ones caught and fixed
