An End to a Streak

We had gone ten months without Bob going to hospital, urgent care or ER. Today that ended.
Blood when he tried to pee this morning.
Not able to pee.
No one able to put in a catheter, not locally or at the VA. They had to do a procedure to dilate him, then put in the catheter.
Did a CT scan with contrast, which is bad for the kidneys.
No growths, or tumors, or even scar tissue causing the problem.
Situation was described to us as being massively inflamed.
Back to Wichita in about a week to get the catheter removed and make sure he is doing okay.
I am going to look for anti inflammatory foods or an anti inflammatory diet.
So much for my day today.
It was a bit more complicated, because the car he drove to Marion is one I have never driven. It has no speedometer. It is stick shift, and I know it has been at least twenty years since I drove stick.
I muddled through and traded the Capri for the van, while Bob took an ambulance ride. I beat them there.
Good night all. Good bye August.

He is doing a lot better again. This seemed to come out of nowhere. We can speculate about a cause, and try to avoid the same situation in the future. He will have more tests later.

Oh, Oshy you would laugh. I learned to drive stick in a school bus loaded with farm kids who could all do better than I did. I only drove it about twelve miles to get my van.

At one week he was better than expected. He will have another procedure in a few weeks and another CT scan in October.

We went where we knew he could get the best help for this problem. He is much better but needing to build back up again. He had just finished being anemic for about four years and actually had normal readings.

He healed quickly from the procedure in the ER. We will have some further exams to help us get going in the right direction. It can be as simple as he got constipated and it set off an inflammatory response. I know. TMI

Oh, Heather, that’s not good at all (she says, stating the obvious). I am really sorry to hear he had to deal with this problem again. Would he mind Turmeric capsules? You can always put it the food, but if you don’t care for the taste, the capsules are simple. That is a great source of anti-inflammatory properties. My dad took them for a long time.

I used to keep a personal turmeric blend on hand for foods. I have not in a long while and I believe it would help me as well. FYI blend equal parts turmeric, ginger, black pepper and cumin and it is a tasty blend to go on eggs or anything you want a little flavor in.

We know that he has a lot of damage from radiation treatment and have been told to expect various flare ups from that.

That’s awful. Did they see any evidence of a kidney stone along with everything else?
Praying for you and Bob.

No, no kidney stones. They will do another scope in a couple of weeks and also another CT. He does not form stones but he does have poor kidney function.

Oh, wow! I'm so sorry that happened. I was thinking earlier that it had been quite a while since his last health problem.
I hope you find things you both like that will help with his condition.

He came out of the nursing home November 1, last year. Ten months. Not too bad. We actually love many of the anti inflammatory foods, but he also loves things that put a strain on his digestion like all kinds of sausage.

@GardenGerty Well, yeah... sausage is always good. I'm glad there are a lot of foods that help with inflammation that you both like...

Bob really enjoys fruits and veggies. I have a whole grain bread that is high in fiber. It is hard when he eats by himself two meals daily.
