I need advice again

Haven't gotten the date for surgery on my foot yet, but I like to plan ahead. I'm making lists of foods to stock the kitchen and pantry and fridge with.
Especially things he can cook or I could give him directions for.
I think at some point I can sit in a wheele chair at the dining room table and cut up okra to fry or cut up veggies for soup.
Those first six weeks when I can't put my foot on the floor AT ALL will be the hardest. Getting from the couch to the wheel chair and getting in and out of bed may be a challenge. Any helpful advice?
Dale's going to be hesitant to leave the house with me by myself. But we have phones if he needs to be on the tractor or somewhere.
I have a cousin whom I think will come stay with me if needed. She's been a caretaker before.
Any other obstacles we need to prepare for? I have my phone, TV, books, but sitting on my behind all day will get painful. Can you lie down on your side?
All advice and suggestions are welcome. Thanks, guys.

Do you get Meals on Wheels? If you don’t, and you qualify, it may be worth it to check it out, at least while you are recovering. Not having the pressure of at least one meal a day would be helpful.
Also, do you have access to a walker? That at least would help you to stand on one foot while grabbing on to something. And, I feel like an idiot saying this, but don’t skimp on your pain medication. Both my dad and his wife tried to get by with just taking it here and there. They both admit they would have recovered faster if they had taken it as directed. But when you’re almost out of it, make sure to wean yourself off of it, and not stop cold turkey.
Again, I feel stupid saying all that given everything you have been through in your life. I just am thinking about my dad and his wife’s surgeries this year, and the things I saw them do that helped them get around, and what hindered their recovery.

Amber, your advice is very much appreciated! In some ways it will be harder than cancer treatments (other than almost dying a couple of times, lol), but God will continue to help us.

Take it easy is all Vicki..I hope your cousin can come help.
I only ever been in a wheelchair once in my life when I had a total nervous breakdown.
I just didn't move much. So I am no help.
I wish you every success with this op now and God be with you

I don't have much to offer in the way of advice except that I would say accept any help anyone is offering. I wish you lots of luck with your surgery and of course a speedy recovery.

Yes, you can lie on your side as far as I know. I wish I could give you advice for getting in and out of bed. I hope you don't have one of those high beds. I always need a stool to get up into them. Maybe you can sleep in a recliner. That's what hubs and I do. Bathing will be another challenge. Do you have a shower chair? Good luck. Hope you and hubby have a good evening.

We do have a shower chair. My bed is high, so I'll probably sleep in a recliner. I had to do that for months after rotator shoulder surgery years ago.

@1creekgirl Yes, the recliner is always a good solution. Hubs and I have slept in recliners for years. Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend.

Did you find a wheelchair ? I sure hope so. A walker would come in handy too. Do you have a church family , family and friends that could help with meals ? I’ve never had any surgery like this. You’ll be in my prayers.

I appreciate that, Marie. I've borrowed a wheelchair and knee scooter. I couldn't use a walker and keep my foot off the floor without a lot of upper body strength. Our friends were so good about helping and feeding us through all my cancer surgeries and treatments, I hope we can manage on our own.
But I'm sure there will still be some who will help anyway.

Good to see you. Sorry to read of your upcoming surgery. I wish you all the best. My slow cooker has saved me on many days. So easy to put everything in when you are not able to stand over a stove. Glad your cousin will be with you to help.

I was just thinking about you yesterday. How is Brendel?
I just made your potato chip candy, can wait for it to set.
The doctor today said the infection is getting better, but will take quite a while to be cleared for foot surgery.
How are you doing? You're in my prayers.

@1creekgirl Thank you. I posted an update earlier today. She is still holding on.
Enjoy your candy and so happy I am being thought about in a good way.
I am doing ok, a day at a time like most of us. Good to see you.

I am sorry that you have to have your foot operated on. I do know how hard that is. I thought mine would never heal, it was so hard to just sit. Yes, I helped from my wheelchair. I prepped a lot of foods ahead, make casseroles and froze them, and so forth. I also accepted help offers from friends--when they said they wanted to bring dinners, I let them! I make a lot of food for people who need it so I do know how much that helps. If someone offers, just say yes!
Whatever you do, when you do try to maneuver from bed to dhair or couch or wherever. plan your movements. Go slowly and don't hurry at all. If you need it, go get another cord to charge your phone with--so you don't have to carry it from one spot to another when you do move around. Go look in your kitchen cabinets, see if there are any items you can get before the surgery, maybe save hubby a trip or two. Anything you can do now will help to prevent stress later on.
I can't advise you on which way to lie, on your side or back or whatever, ask the doctor. He will know which way is better to not put strain on your foot. If I were closer, I would bring you a dinner!
