The Song for Farmers

Out of all the Filipino Folk songs from the Luzon Lowlands in the Philippines, "Magtanim ay Di Biro" (Planting Rice is Never Fun) is the one that I like best. It reflects on how hard farmers work every day and their importance to us. The lyrics tell us how much they've sacrificed for us to have food and that we should appreciate them as well. Are there any songs that can be significant in your life?

In Italy we also had a song of those who planted rice, to complain about the Boss and the hard time in the rice fields.

These songs depict the hardship that they do. I hope people around the globe will appreciate their sacrifices to provide some crops for us.

@Shavkat I am not sure that it is still done manually in Italy. They use machines now.

I learned this song in elementary school. Our parents also used this song to teach us to respect and not waste the food on the table.

My biological parents taught us the significant of this song, too. My late father used to keep on telling us not to waste any food, especially the rice.

So this song is well known in your part of the world? I like that something has been passed on to the younger people demonstrating how hard people have to work to put food on the table. It gives a real appreciation I think people in my part of the world really lack. Well, not all of my country. The people in middle America appreciate and respect hard work greatly. That’s not to say people on the coasts do not, but more people in mid America do than anywhere else in the United States.

It was a good impact for young ones to know this fact. One of my nieces asked me about it last night. Thus, she write something about it as her homework to be passed next Monday.

I just remembered this folk song when my niece asked me about it. She needs to write something about it and likes it when listening to it.
