Mom came for lunch

Actually, I went and picked her up and brought her to the campsite. My mom is 85 years old and will be 86 in November. K stayed in camp and prepared lunch. We had pork loin, corn on the cob, and mashed potatoes, all prepared outside on the grill. Do you have any idea how hard it is to grill mashed potatoes? Just kidding. Our grill has a pot and pan ring attachment for boiling and frying things. After lunch, which my mother enjoyed, we had Sara Lee cheesecake for dessert. Do you remember the old Sara Lee commercials with the tagline, "Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee?" Mom stayed a couple of hours and I took her home when she said she was ready for her nap. All in all, it's been a good Saturday here in camp. How was your Saturday?

I do remember the commercials. It sounds like you had a nice visit with your mom.

It was a very nice visit. Mom likes coming to the campground and being near the river. She's funny about lunch. The only veggie she'll eat is corn,

@Tampa_girl7 When I was growing up, we only ever had 4 veggies served in our house if you count spaghetti sauce as a vegetable. The other three were canned peas, canned green beans, and frozen corn niblets. Sometimes, when it was in season, we'd have corn on the cob.

I enjoyed my day working at home sharing good news stories on this site as well as completing surveys and enjoying seeing reruns of The Three Stooges and the Frankenstein movie this evening.

Which Frankenstein movie? The old classic from 1939, or the one said to be most accurate to the original story made in 1994?

@Deepizzaguy You can't go wrong with Boris Karloff.

I am glad you had your Mom with you for lunch. My brother always brought her to his apartment for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays, she did not live far from him, I was in another country.

K and I live about 90 minutes away. Other than the 3 or 4 times a year we come down and camp, we try to visit at least once a month and either take Mom out to lunch or bring lunch to her, depending on how she's feeling.

@DWDavis I did the same. I lived 4 hours away, but I visited Mom every month. When we moved here, we were 1 hour only from her and I visited a couple of times a months. She came to stay here with us for a week during summer and for the Christmas holidays.

I'm sure your mom enjoyed the visit and the lunch certainly sounds delicious. Sara Lee cheesecake (yum). My mouth is watering.

Mom did enjoy the visit. She can't drive anymore. My sister who lives next door to her takes her shopping, to the doctor, and to have her hair done. K and I try to get down here at least once a month to take Mom out to lunch, or to bring lunch to her.

I treasure every moment I spend with her. I know, though don't want to admit it, that there might not be so many left.

That was nice of you to have your mom for lunch. I love a good pork loin. Yes, I remember the Sara Lee commercials. Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend. Nothing much going on here. Hubs picked up some Chinese which we will have again today.

I love that about Chinese food. Order it for dinner tonight and you can get another dinner out of it, and maybe lunch the third day.

I liked those Sara Lee commercials, but I don’t even remember when they changed them. It’s nice to hear of people taking care of their mothers. Not enough people take the kind of care we all should with our aging parents. My Saturday was fine. I did a lot of organizing my credenza and bookcases. I didn’t realize just how much paperwork I had collected.

K's mom lived with us for the last 14 years of her life. K and I took care of her as best we could. She lived to be 82. It is amazing how fast paperwork piles up.

That is cool, mom is a sport, I hope I will be one day. We had mashed potatoes too Kai kind of ate half of them. She was making sure no one was poisoning me.

Her only complaint is having to use a step-stool to climb into my truck.
