Kitchen nightmare continues

Kitchen appliances should be put into the kitchen and installed after all the kitchen cabinetry work is done. That is what I anticipated would happen and so did not postpone our appliance delivery scheduled for August 31st. That is not what happened though.
With the kitchen cabinet work still incomplete the appliances were delivered. The fridge and microwave were placed into the dining room and we told the delivery men to place the dishwasher and the stove into the kitchen. I asked them to do that because our contractor works alone and I did not want him dragging those appliances into the kitchen himself. Also, you need the appliances installed when countertop people come to measure things and our contractor is not here to do that. If not connected, I at least wanted them in their spots.
Unfortunately, they did not put the appliances into their spaces because those spaces weren't ready. There was stuff that had to be unscrewed to slide the appliances in.
The kitchen guys came yesterday (for the 3rd time) to continue working on the kitchen. They had to put the appliances into their spots before starting any work. I had a large sheet on the floor that my contractor uses to cover the floor when working. I didn't want the new tiles exposed. The guys removed it. I thought they would just remove a little bit so they can slide the appliances in but they removed the entire sheet, telling me not to worry, that they will not scratch the floors.
While the floors do not look scratched they were all covered in the dust debris (if that's the name) from the saw cutting they had to do. And all that debris also went all over the brand new stove and dishwasher and the bottom cabinets which are exposed as there is no countertop yet.
I had to attempt to get rid of all that stuff. I swept the floor many times. I wiped the inside of cabinets. And I had to wipe it all off from the appliances. I didn't even get to wipe the outside of the cabinets yet.
I looked at everything today and there was still dust left on the appliances, on the floor, and inside the cabinets. Argh! Have to sweep the floor again and wipe stuff again too. Not even gonna worry about the outside of the cabinets at this point.
If they had to saw anything they should have done it outside. At the very least they should've asked me to give them something to cover the appliances and cabinets with. And they should have put the sheet back on the floor.
Now they will be coming back to continue installing things. And I bet they will have more sawing to do...
To put in the Lazy Susan they will have to take the stove out of its spot because it is not in all the way and it blocks the cabinet door from opening. I am not a fan of them doing that because I already saw a small chip on the oven door. And I want them to slide it back in. I home no more damage will be caused to it. And of course I don't want the cabinets to get banged up in the process. That space is pretty tight.

It is definitely frustrating. First time I had to deal with a kitchen remodel on my own.

I imagine so. I hope the nightmare ends soon and you have a functional kitchen.

@lovebuglena Yeah, depends on how high you want the backsplash to go. Sometimes its easier to install when not leaned over a stove.

My contractor is on vacation until 9/18 so appliances won’t get installed till after. And I still have no sink, no countertop, and no backsplash. I wonder if I should wait till appliances fully installed before getting backsplash.

@kaylachan Backsplash will go between top and bottom cabinets. I made a typo. I meant before getting countertop. May be difficult to install dishwasher with countertop already installed.

I know this aggravation Lena. I pray none of that 'dust' they are creating has bits in it that will scratch anything.

It got in places that will be a pain trying to get it out of.

And people that put up kitchens should know dust will be everywhere and either cover everything themselves or ask the homeowner to do that.
When my contractor had to cut tile he did it outside. And I think when he cut other things too. And he covered the floor when he did the walls, etc.

@lovebuglena I hope that dust does not get inside the dishwasher and the stove. Sawdust spreads everywhere.

I covered top of stove and dishwasher yesterday but couldn’t cover the doors. Doors got dust on it as they were sawing again. And I think some dust got on top of stove and dishwasher somehow anyway. And of course floor was all in that stuff.

Home renovation is really difficult. I am therefore going on postponing my kitchen cabinets done. I have only the marble slab on which I keep my stove and some utensils. I have shelves to put in my other stuffs.

@aninditasen That's interesting. When we were looking for countertop we were told to stay away from marble.

Marble? I was told marble not a good idea as it can get damaged easily.

It is. If only I had realized the saw dust will end up everywhere. I'd have covered the appliances at least before they started doing that.

I can understand how worrying this is. Some contractors are not as careful as they should be.

These are kitchen installers. My own contractor is more careful.

They will be coming back (5th time) to finish the spice cabinet. They forgot to bring stuff to screw on the shelves to prevent stuff from falling off the shelves. Not sure what that’s called.

@LindaOHio Guy came today and installed the things inside the spice cabinets to prevent stuff from falling off the shelves. They are done. Unless we complain about something.

Kitchen remodeling is a total nightmare. Most people who go through one kitchen remodel, never want to do another one as long as they live. I know I don't, my daughters both say the same thing. I am sorry, I know how you are feeing, I really do. It's just constant work to keep up with the dust they create.

I definitely don’t want another kitchen remodel. But if it ever comes to that I will not buy appliances or at least not deliver them until kitchen totally done. Appliances shouldn’t be in the kitchen during kitchen install. But I had no idea kitchen install would take more than one or two days so didn’t postpone appliance delivery.
