Would you be mad?

Would you be mad if you could not talk and could not dress yourself, and someone put uncomfortable clothes on you? New day today, but my kiddo was very cross and becoming moreso every minute. By 11:15 he had had it. It was when I was on lunch and someone else was working with him. He was not wanting to do anything, and chose the icon that meant 'rocking chair'. As we got him out of the straps that hold his feet in place in his wheel chair, he reached down to try to unzip his shoes. They are a special design to be easy to put on kids with disabilities. I looked, and his shoes were on the wrong feet. His dad brought him to school this morning. Often one or another pieces of his clothing are wrong side out, mismatched or backwards. I have found him in shoes reversed before as well. This was before he had orthotics to wear, in his shoes. It made him mad the other times, even without orthotics. Imagine how he must have felt with braces forcing his feet one way, and shoes over those braces pushing his feet the other way!! I even had had him in his standing equipment and he was grumpy. We will check more often in the future. I was at lunch so I helped with him. I took his shoes, braces, and socks off and massaged his feet. He was then full of smiles and we all got to hear that terrific laugh. It improved his day a lot.

That would make me unhappy too. Glad you figured it out.

I'd be very unhappy like that. I wonder why his parents aren't paying more attention while they dress him?

Is it odd that his dad would not notice that? I guess it happens, but I would have thought when he shoved his son's feet into the shoes he would be able to tell something was off. Poor kid. That's a tough life.

What kind of parents does that child have? It sounds like cruelty to me.

Something small like that can have a big impact. Glad you identified the problem, he must have been so uncomfortable.
