Get FIOS or stay with Spectrum?

A guy from Verizon Fios came by and asked me how much I am paying for my TV + Internet. He was shocked when I told him how much we are paying every month (around $259) for our Spectrum bill. I told him that we started out at a promotional rate and then it kept increasing until it got to what we are paying now, which was actually $20 more until we downgraded our TV package. He then offered me FIOS services. I'd also have TV, Internet, and DVR service. I'd be paying at least $80 less than what I am paying now. I asked him how long this rate will last and he said it should stay this way for four years. Of course, he wanted me to switch on the spot but I told him that I have to talk it over with my husband first. To switch or not? We already had FIOS before and they gave us a promo rate until the monthly bill got high and we switched to Spectrum after they gave us a promo rate. As the saying goes, nothing lasts forever. I don't want to keep switching constantly from one provider to another.

Well I only know that Verizon is a very good company..we have Comcast, but the moment Verizon comes to my area, I am switching. So that is my take on that.

We had FIOS. They gave us a promo rate and then little by little it started going up until it became high. Promo was for only one year I think. Then Spectrum came to our door with a promo rate and hubby switched us to that. Same thing happened. Now FIOS wants us to switch and giving us what they say is a good deal. And that it will be locked-in for four years. But what they are offering, though way cheaper than Spectrum, still seems a lot of money to spend every month, for TV, Internet, and DVR.

@RebeccasFarm Let's say the bill is close to $180/month. You think that's a good deal? Compared to almost $260 it is. But without the comparison is it?

I won't change because the bill will eventually be just as much as we're paying now. Have a great day.

We ended up getting FIOS. They said the rate will be locked for 4 years. They didn't do that before. For the first 60 days we will get all the channels but then we can choose what we want to keep and what we want to get rid of. So, the initial amount we pay (for the 60-day trial of all channels) may decrease once we remove channels we don't want. After they install FIOS we have to cancel Spectrum. I wonder if they will try to get us to stay with them if we tell them we are cancelling because we switched to FIOS.

@lovebuglena Yes, and they will offer you a better price. I would say, "Why didn't you give us that price before?" They are such scum bags.

@LindaOHio Before the promo was for a year with FIOS I believe. And then it slowly went up. A fixed price for 4 years is a good deal. It better be the case.

I got that same spiel a few weeks ago at my front door. I refuse to be made to have a decision right on the spot. He, of course, acted shocked when I told him how much I paid for Cox. I don’t trust approaches like that. When I declined, he’s like, “Your loss”. I was doubly glad I said no.

He came back after hubby came home from work. Now he talked to both of us instead of just me. We ended up getting FIOS. And we get free installation because he came to our door. So he said. I wonder if I would have gotten free installation had I went online or called to switch. But generally, I hate people coming to my door to get me to buy something or to switch my cable, or even to preach religious stuff, etc. I want time to think before I commit to something. I usually ignore when someone rings the bell if I am not expecting a delivery or a guest. But sometimes they keep on ringing the bell many times so I go open so they leave me alone. Except they don't lol. They start talking and talking. And if it's cable / tv stuff they try to get me to switch. And are always shocked when I say how much we are paying a month.
