Day 82
Luke 24:13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem.
14 They talked together about all these things that had happened.
15 It happened, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus drew near and went with them.
16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.
17 He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?”
18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, who does not know the things which happened there in these days?"
19 He said to them, “What things?”
They said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping it was He who would redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. 22 Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. 23 When they did not find His body, they said they saw a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 Certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but Him they did not see.”
25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter His glory?”
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
28 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther.
29 But they constrained Him, saying, “Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went in to stay with them.
30 Now it happened, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them.
31 Then their eyes were opened, and they knew Him, and He vanished from their sight.
32 They said to one another, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
33 So they arose that very hour, returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”
35 They talked about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.
What sets you apart from your friends and family? By what signs do they recognize you? Everyone has certain things they do which separates them from the people they know.
On the day Jesus rose from the grave, angels appeared to the women who came to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. Instead of finding the body, they saw angels who told them He was alive. When they went back to the others who were with them and told them what happened, two of the disciples ran to the tomb and found it empty and the grave clothes lying there. Two of their party traveled to Emmaus. While they traveled, Jesus came upon them and asked why they were sad. When they told Him, He told them everything that was supposed to happen to Him from the prophecies of Moses through the prophets. Then when He would have continued on His way, they asked Him to stay with them. When He went into the house with them, He took the bread and blessed it. When He did, they knew Him and returned to Jerusalem, where they found further evidence of Jesus’ resurrection.
As Christians, you know Jesus set Himself apart from everyone else with His resurrection. Yet, He still needed to prove He was alive. The only way to do that was by showing them what they knew about Him. Just saying He was alive, as the women did, or finding the grave clothes lying by themselves, wasn’t enough. They needed physical proof. Jesus provided physical proof when He met two men on the road to Emmaus. He talked to them and then blessed the bread, an act they knew Him by, and they hurried back to Jerusalem with the proof.
When you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you needed physical proof that He was all He claimed to be. Reading the Bible wasn’t enough. It tells many wonderful stories about what God did for His people, but what did God do for you? What evidence did Jesus provide you that proved He was who He claimed to be?
People are your proof. When someone told you about their salvation experience, they did it with proof of what He did for them. Their words burned in you as you recalled instances from your life about things that didn’t make sense, but in the light of what people told you, made perfect sense, and you believed.
When Jesus talked to the men, His words burned in them, so that when He blessed the bread, they knew Him and believed.
What is your salvation experience? What is your proof that Jesus is your Messiah? How does Jesus bless you every day since you accepted Him as your Savior and Lord?
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Jesus’ resurrection and the proof that He is my Redeemer. Let me be the proof to another hungry person in need of Your salvation. Let me bless them as You have blessed me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

I don't need any proof. I believe. Have a blessed day and weekend.
