Cinnamon-raisin biscuits

In the US a biscuit is a pastry that is similar to a scone. It is not like a cookie. It is a good addition as a bread for a meal. I have not really felt like cooking much, but Bob making that lovely salad made me feel like doing some as well. This morning for our breakfasts we will have biscuits with cinnamon and raisins in them. It will go well with sausage and eggs. The weather is cooling off. I keep self rising flour around and biscuits is one thing I make from it. I will also make pancake batter with it. I may be getting my motivation for meals back as last night I also made a batch of homemade yogurt. It is so good for your overall health. I used the crockpot this time. Sometimes I use the dehydrator. I think I like this results better. After work Jane and I will get together in the park in Marion, because she has a grooming appointment for her dog, Laverne in town. It will be a nice visit. I may take a container of broth for Laverne for her dry food. She only has four teeth. She was a rescue. She lives a good life now.

The biscuits sound delicious. I've never made yogurt. Is it easy? I'm glad you're getting together with Jane. Have a great visit.

To make it you scald your milk of choice, but do not boil it. Let it cool. For a firm yogurt stir in dry powder milk. I use a good quality Greek yogurt for starter, stir some of the scalded milk into it, then add it all into the prepared milk. Pour into jars, keep warm for 8 or more hours. I use 8 cups whole milk, I c powdered milk, 1 C yogurt for starter. I made 5 pint wide mouth jars and put them in my crock pot on warm for about 4 hours. It held the heat overnight so that I had jars of firm beautiful yogurt to put in the fridge. I believe I could culture the next batch from my own yogurt.

@just4him It is. No fancy chemical reactions, etc. I would like to learn how to make a good sourdough starter. I tried once, but did not like the results.

Cinnamon raisin biscuits - that sounds so good (here I go looking for a recipe!). Sometimes we get these cooking spurts - feels productive. Awwww, Laverne will appreciate your broth!

@much2say It came out really rich tasting. Unfortunately lentils seems to be something that Bob does not enjoy. They tasted "powdery" to him. He eats most beans.

Jane had a bad headache so plans got cancelled. I have more broth for her in the freezer. I used the thawed broth to cook some lentils.

I love that a dog’s name is Laverne, and how wonderful that she is a rescue! I had biscuits and gravy this morning, but they weren’t homemade.

Cinnamon raisin biscuits with a glaze are so yummy. Hardees used to make some awesome ones, but I haven't had any there for decades. I should try them and see if they are still as good.

Oh, yum. I wish Bob would eat pasta, but he does not. We could have a lot more variety in our meals.

@DaddyEvil Bob will eat lasagna. I actually got him to try some frozen recently. Used to he would only eat mine.He will eat Chef Boyardee ravioli but does not care for the kind you get frozen in a box and heat, possibly fry, and put sauce on. I wish he would try some tortellini or some gnocchi, I have had tortellini but not gnocchi, but believe I would like it.

Poor Laverne only having 4 teeth. Our little dog Mush recently had to have her teeth extracted and she only has about 4 left too. I'm sure Laverne will love the beef broth for her dry food. I have never even given making yogurt a thought. Do you make flavors or just plain? Sounds interesting Cinamon raisin biscuits would start my day off on a happy note. Enjoy your day

I make plain, but serve it with frozen fruit and some honey. I love to microwave an apple with cinnamon and brown sugar and top it with yogurt.

I have not made biscuits in years, but used to make them all the time after working the breakfast shift at Hardee's. I was still married then and our kid still lived at home.

I have not heard of that but I would guess that it is a starter culture. Most countries have some kind of fermented milk product.

I make them sometimes as well. They are so good, for some reason I consider them winter/cold weather food, I think it's because the kids always wanted them over the holidays. We have very few Hardee's in my area left, most have been closed for years. I don't miss them, their food was not good. Maybe it was at one time, but not when I tried it back in the day.

Most of them became Carl's Jr. I found them to be pretty average at the time.

@GardenGerty I can only think of 2 Hardee's in our whole area right now. I think they just faded away. I know the one closest to me is now a pizza place.
