Read the story here:
Some time ago (probably a couple of months), something popped up on my Facebook news feed about voting for a restaurant for ARTA (Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards). I don't often bother with these things, but I knew exactly which restaurant had my vote.
Today, Sakura Japanese Restaurant Ltd shared the news that they had been nominated and made it through to the finals. I am genuinely pleased for them.
The restaurant is based in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England. My husband and I went there for the first time during our first visit to Weston together. We have loved it ever since. Sakura has moved to a larger premises since we first visited, and we have been to the new premises once.
Sakura is a truly lovely restaurant, run by truly lovely people. I am really glad that they have made it to the finals. While I have been to my fair share of lovely restaurants, I believe that Sakura is deserving of the title of best Asian restaurant.
Anyway, that's my positive story for today. I'd absolutely recommend a visit to Sakura if you're able to get there (I'd suggest booking in advance, although they will accommodate walk-ins if they can).
There are other restaurants I like, but Sakura is the only one I will say is an absolute favourite.
I can make most foods myself, and usually prefer home-made but Japanese is definitely better at a good restaurant!
Do you have any favourite independent restaurants? Or a particular type of cuisine you enjoy or prefer at a restaurant than having at home?

We have a couple of good Chinese restaurants around. And one Italian restaurant that makes gnocchi like my mother used to make. Have a good day.

There is one Chinese restaurant in the city, maybe one or two on the other sides of the city. There are none in my town (actually, I don't think there are any restaurants in my town, only a lot of takeaways and a couple of pubs that serve food). I do enjoy Chinese food.
Italian is one of those that I find really depends on who's made it! I'm not sure what gnocchi is. I may have had it and forgotten, though!

@pumpkinjam Gnocchi is a potato dumpling eaten as you would spaghetti. It's so good. Here's a picture.

This restaurant is run by Japanese people so I guess it's genuinely Japanese food. I've been to others like the Yo Sushi chain, which is OK but very different in presentation, quality, authenticity.

@pumpkinjam - I have been to several Japanese restaurants in the United States, they were not at all real. I remember a Japanese couple sitting near us who told us that food in Japan was completely different. I warned them that it was the same in the so called Italian Restaurants there.

There is a Japanese restaurant in this area, which is quite good. It is one of my favorites around here.

That's a shame that you can't afford to go out to eat. I know it can be very expensive. For me, it used to be that I'd go out to a pub for a meal maybe once a year. Now I am lucky enough to afford to go more often and enjoy more variety. There is one restaurant near me, though, that I won't go to. I went once. It was nice but ridiculously expensive. Some places are worth paying a little more, but this was way off!

I always find Greek food rather dry. I wonder if it is all like that or if I just haven't found the dishes I like yet. I have had some other Greek restaurants recommended to me so I might give them a go.
