It's Friday the 13th...Are You Superstitious?

There are several stories about the origin of believing that Friday the 13th is bad luck. Here are two: A Christian-based story revolves around Jesus' last supper. There were 13 people present on the 13th of Nisan Maundy Thursday, the night before His death on Good Friday. In Norse mythology there were 12 gods having a dinner party in Valhalla. Loki, who is the trickster god, was not invited. Loki arrived, making him the 13th guest. He arranged for Hoor to shoot Balder with a mistletoe-tipped arrow. "Balder died and the whole Earth got dark. The whole Earth mourned. It was a bad, unlucky day". I'm not superstitious; and I don't believe in bad luck on Friday the 13th. Are you superstitious about Friday the 13th? Have you ever had bad luck on that day? Photo Credit: Pixabay

Interesting info. Thanks for presenting it. It's just another day to me, but if something bad happens, I will be sure to blame it on that!

I know that exactly on Friday October 13th the French Knights Templar were arrested, tortured and burnt on a stake. They spell a cast on those who killed them. I am not superstitious.

My birth was on a Monday, but it was the 13th, so I am not afraid of Friday.

That black cat in the photo looks like my Tish when she is angry, For me the number 13 is a lucky number under my birth sign and I was born on a Friday so Friday the 13th counts as a very lucky day for me,

Nope I'm not superstitious about Friday being the 13th. My grandmother was very superstitious about many things. Those are interesting theories about how Friday the 13th became bad luck

@LindaOHio October seems to be filled with all sorts of horror/spooky movies. My days of enjoying those kinds of movies are over. I'd rather watch a Hallmark movie and especially enjoy them for Christmas

I remember when I was a kid, our family went to town. We found it was on fire. My brothers helped with the fire hoses but they would not let me because I am a girl. Whole blocks of downtown were destroyed. It was Friday the 13th. On the other hand, I played the number 13 at a raffle and won a turkey for my family.

Friday the 13th is my favorite day! The number 13 has always been my "lucky" number, so I always get excited when there is a Friday the 13th. I always seem to have a good day when it rolls around.

No, but I live in apartment 13, and this has been my least prolific apartment ever on an amount of time spent kissing a pretty girl/days lived here basis.

lol I'm surprised they even have an apartment 13. Thought it might be like skipping 13 for the building floors.

Friday the 13th just comes and goes for me like any other day, sometimes I didn't even notice it was Friday the 13th. I also have never considered 13 as an unlucky or bad luck number.

Me too. I saw Stevie Wonder at Leo's Casino in the 60s. He had to have permission from the City of Cleveland to perform because he was so young.

No, not at all. My mother was born on Friday 13th. I don't think it's such a big deal here as it is in the US, I mean no-one really takes it seriously and certainly don't bother about the number 13 alone. I was really taken aback to find that many buildings in the US simply don't have a 13th floor, for example (I mean they do, but they just re-number it). I don't think anyone here would dream of letting a silly superstition actually change a building!

Yup. The 13th floor thing is definitely something they don't do in a lot of cases here in the US.
