Nutmegs

We have a nutmeg tree that yields well but the nuts are ready only in the rainy season They drop to the ground when they are ready We open the outer shell that is discarded and the nut with its hard cover is collected. The hard over is coated with the flower that is called mace. That is separately kept
Both the nut and the mace needs to be dried and we wait for the rains to subside and until then the stuff is kept in the fridge.
The disappointment is that despite keeping in the fridge mildew sets on the mace and we throw a lot of it. Mace is expensive but we hardly get any thing to sell. The nutmegs are kept in the sun for days and there again so,e just do not seem good enough for sale Collecting is a process that is done each day for many months
I now understand the plight of farmers when rain spoils their produce.
