Defiance is based on a true story of the Bielski brothers in World War II. The Polish Jewish brothers who formed a group and took in other Jews in the forest of Belarus during the occupation by Nazi Germany. The film was released in 2008. It stars Daniel Criag, Liev Schreiber, and Jamie Bell. The three oldest brothers lead the group through the forest and do their best to keep the group alive. As should be expected with a movie taking place in a war, there is much violence, some language and some adult content. Overall, I thought it was a good movie and not the first time I have watched it. Although like most movies there are mistakes to be found. If you’re like me, you might catch them. One that does not hurt the story really but jumped out at me was when the camp was starting to come down with Typhus. They needed medication and they sent out a group to get Ampicillin. I can only assume they used Ampicillin since most people are familiar with this medication. The first issue with this is Ampicillin was not discovered till 1958 and was not widely used till 1961. Another issue with this is, Typhus is treated with chloramphenicol or tetracycline a different type of antibiotic. Not to mention the Germans where they went to steal the medication did not have any type of penicillin during World War II. Another one that jumped out at me was after a battle with the Germans, Zus (Liev Schreiber) takes a machine gun off a tank that had just been firing and holds the machine gun by the barrel. After firing so many rounds the barrel would be much too hot to carry by the barrel. I’m only guessing that there were other mistakes but those are a few I noticed. Still, I thought it was a good film and if you are interested in World War II or war films in general, I would suggest this movie.

It was a good movie in my opinion and all movies have mistakes in them. Just depends on how close you watch if you notice them.

Directors and producers always use dramatic license in movies.

Yes this is true. Thats why they are called "based on a true story". That way they can adjust the story a little to try to make it more interesting or more dramatic.
