I made my grocery list again.

When I went to the supermarket by myself, I try to buy for at least 2 or 3 weeks. And of course that meant always eating stale bread and using too much space of the fridge in veggies that sometimes I had to throw away. When the pandemia started I discovered that there was a place where I could send my list from my computed and they would shop exactly in the supermarket I like. And later on they offered to bring me my groceries with no shipping if I bought a certain minimum. That required planning but after a while it was easy. When I only need bread and a few things for it, I buy Luna´s food. Luna´s food alone is almost enough to reach the minimum. And when I have that, I buy a couple of liters of oil and a piece of good cheese. When I sold my car I had to pay for a cab or Uber back and forth. And still it was difficult. Now I open the garage door and ask the shoppers to place everything on a table at the garage. Thinking about it, I spend less now than then. And selling my var has been very convenint because I don´t need it much. How about you?

In most of the US, people would be lost without their vehicles. Unless you live in a big city, it's too far to walk everywhere you need to go. And paying a taxi or Uber is too expensive. Three of my doctors are 80 km away and one of Pretty's doctors is 130 km away from us. We live in a small city and the grocery store is 4 km away from us and there is no delivery here for anything.

@marguicha Sometimes that is really annoying... I get tired of driving long distances all the time.

It's nice to have the grocery store just 4km away, it's so convenient to just go and grab something when you need it. But, going to the doctors is really far away.

Where I live, it would be very hard to get by without a vehicle. Uber/taxi, whatever is available is not very reliable. And it's insanely priced. Things are just far apart from each other, and not practical to not have one, but I do agree they are an expense. We pay for the convenience, I know. I currently do not use delivery, but I have before when I had to. I rather enjoy picking out my own items, especially produce. I'm just weird like that...haha! Don't forget the cake!

I did not forget the cake. I have a supermarket 4 blocks away from my house. I should start walking to the super like I did before the pandemia.

@marguicha Walking is good for you, yes. But don't overdo it...if you walk home, can you carry everything? That's 8 blocks of walking total for you, and I know your legs hurt you. Just take care!

@MarieCoyle I used to walk to the supermarket. On my way back I´d take a cab they have there. I paid the minimum that was around US $4.

That grocery delivery service sounds good. I have read some similar services here, and think it'd be useful and convenient, but my husband prefers to go out and shop for groceries. Since he is doing the grocery shopping, it's okay for me too. I don't drive, so if I really want to go out alone, I will call Grab car (similar to Uber) or ask my husband to send me. It's not convenient, but I have always been living like this, and having Grab car service actually makes it easier for me now, as public transport here isn't really convenient. I think we save more by having only one car too, since I don't really go out often. (Perhaps I will go out more often if I have a car.... )

We always had only one car when my husband was alive. now it seems that everyone must have a car of its own. I have a big supermarket 4 or 5 blocks away so before the pandemia I walked to the supermarket and came back with the groceries in a cab.

You made a good decision! Saving money and hassles with car repairs, yep, good deal!! I live in a rural area. It is 7 miles to town and it is a small town and not much there. We go to the neighboring town for a lot of stuff that is not available here, which is 20 miles away. We need a car because no delivery to rural areas.

I discovered during my chemotherapy that my eyes saw less and that my hands trembled. I only dared go driving to the supermarket and to 3 other houses near by. It was a lot cheaper to sell the car and pay a cab or an Uber.

Our grocery store is very close and I like to go shopping myself. When the weather is nice, sometimes I walk to the store with my shopping cart on wheels. My mother who lived in the city never needed a car.

I should start doing that too. My legs suffered a lot during the pandemia.

@LadyDuck I used to walk and run and garden a lot until I had cancer. The d**n thing and the chemo that followed left me with no energy. I had never had a nap until then. Now naps are part of my life even when I´m invited for lunch. I suppose that part of it is that time has gone by. At 78, I have accepted that I´m what one calls "old"

These online groceries are a blessing to many. I've been doing the same since we moved to this apartment. I no longer drive and don't like taking the cab by myself. So I have most things delivered here. I also get free shipping and discount vouchers. So convenient!

I live 4 blocks from a big supermarket. Before the pandemia, when Leticia came to my house, we went walking to the super and took an Uber back if I had bought too much.

I love the convenience of being able to order groceries online and have them delivered. It saves money, time and energy. It's well worth it to me for adding a small tip for the shopper/delivery person

I had to learn to shop online. I know that there are some things that I cannot ask the shoppers to bring. After having to throw away twice some spinach, I discovered that I must find another way to buy greens.

We can't get delivery from our local stores; but we can order and then pick it up. We must have a car for all the doctors' appointments, etc. Some doctors are over 30 minutes away. I imagine an Uber would be very expensive. Have a good day.

I now don´t go to the hospital where I went for my chemo. It is so far away that even if the treaatment was very cheap due to government help, the taxi that drove me was very expensive although I made a deal with him.
