Day 93 John 17:1 Jesus said these things; then, lifting his eyes to heaven, he said, “Father, the time has come; give glory to your Son, so that the Son may give glory to You 2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh to give eternal life to all those whom You gave to Him. 3 This is eternal life: to know You, the only true God, and of Him whom You sent, even Jesus Christ. 4 I gave You glory on the earth; having done all the work You gave me to do. 5 Now, Father, give Me glory with You, even that glory which I had with You before the world began. 6 I gave knowledge of Your name to the men whom You gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and You gave them to Me, and they kept Your words. 7 Now it is clear to them that whatever You gave to me comes from You 8 because I gave them the words You gave to Me, and they took them to heart, and know I came from You, and have faith that You sent me. 9 My prayer is for them. My prayer is not for the world, but for those whom You gave to Me, because they are Yours. 10 (All Mine are Yours, and Yours are mine) I have glory in them. 11 Now, I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep them in Your name which You gave to me, so that they may be one even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them safe in Your name which You gave Me. I took care of them. Not one of them has come to destruction, but only the son of destruction, so that Scripture might come true. 13 Now I come to You. These things I say in the world so that they may have My joy complete in them. 14 I gave Your Word to them. The world hates them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 My prayer is not for You to take them out of the world, but for You to keep them from the Evil One. 16 They are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 17 Make them holy by the true Word. Your Word is the true Word. 18 Even as You sent Me into the world, so I sent them into the world. 19 For them I make Myself holy, so that they may be made holy. 20 My prayer is not for them only, but for all who will have faith in me through their word. 21 May they all be one! Even as you, Father, are in Me and I am in You, so let them be in us, so that all men may come to have faith that You sent Me. 22 The glory which You gave to me I gave to them, so that they may be one even as we are one. 23 I in them, and You in Me, so that they may be made completely one, and so that it may become clear to all men that You sent me and that You loved Me. 24 Father, I desire that these whom You gave to me will be by My side where I am, so that they may see My glory which You gave to Me because You loved Me before the world came into being. 25 Father of righteousness, I know You, though the world does not. To these it is clear You sent Me. 26 I gave them knowledge of Your name and will give it so that the love You have for Me may be in them and I in them.” How do you pray? Do you pray for yourself or for others? Do you give God a long list of requests? What is your reason for prayer? Does it make you feel good when you pray? Jesus did not pray for Himself. He did not give His Father a list of requests. He prayed for those His Father gave Him, not only in the place and time He lived but for everyone who would come to know Him. He asked His Father to give joy to those who knew Him as the Son of God. Jesus’ purpose in the world was to glorify His Father, and for those who knew Him to glorify His Father. His one request was for those who knew Him and would come to know Him to be one with Him and His Father. Are you one with the Father? As Christians, do you give glory to the Father when you pray? Do you pray for others in the same way Jesus prayed for you? Do you have joy when you pray? When you finish praying do you know you touched the Father? Jesus prayed for you to be complete, one with Him and the Father. The only way to become one with Him is to glorify Him and fulfill His purpose in your life. Jesus fulfilled His purpose. He did everything the Father told Him to do. He left nothing undone. Jesus was at the end of His life on earth. He would soon go back to His Father. His prayer showed He completed the work His Father gave Him. When you come to the end of your life will you know you did everything God purposed in you to do? You are in a race. Run your race with joy. Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Jesus finished what His Father set for Him to accomplish. Pray for you to do the same. Finish your life with prayer for the people God gave you to disciple. Pray for their faith to increase. Pray for them to make disciples. Your life isn’t finished until you finish everything the Father sent you here to do. Your life isn’t finished until the Father says it is. Until then, pray for God to increase your faith and give you people to disciple so they too will know Him and make disciples. When you do, you will be complete in Him, one with the Father and Jesus, His Son. Let’s pray: Father, You gave me a purpose to make disciples for You. Fulfill Your purpose in my life. Lead me to those whom You called to know You and help me disciple them as someone discipled me and showed me Your truth. Let Your joy fill me as I am complete in You. One with You and Your Son as I fulfill Your will in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 17 October 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

We temporarily live in this World, but we must remember that it is not our permanent home. We have a role to play here, and a purpose to fulfil, and then we can join Jesus and his father, in our permanent home.

I agree. We're only visiting and need the Holy Spirit to keep us on the straight and narrow. Have a blessed day.
