Lots of country music to come, but you get a quick break from it starting today. Well, asterisk. I don’t think many people would call this “real country.” But then, look who sang it. Enough of that, here’s today’s “ain’t” song.
It Ain’t Me, Babe - Johnny Cash
With the trumpets and Bob Dylan as a writer, you kinda figure this wouldn’t be “up there” with Faron or Webb.
I’ve mentioned this before: growing up watching Johnny Cash’s ABC television series was my first real education beyond country music. Cash had Homer and Jethro opening the show with a silly skit, then Katy bar the door. Have you ever looked at the guest list on his show? The Monkees, the Guess Who, Odetta, CCR, ad OC Smith on the same episodes as Marty Robbins, Glen Campbell, the Statler Brothers, and Johnny’s brother, Tommy??!! Lots of folkies, too, including Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, and, of course, Dylan. Cash was a huge Dylan fan.
It wasn’t long before my dad would look at the guest list on the screen and decide whether or not we’d watch that week’s episode.
That’s okay: by then I had a TV in my room.
Anyway, here’s Johnny doing Dylan. And that’s all I really need to say.
It Ain’t Me, Babe
Written by Bob Dylan
Recorded by Johnny Cash
From Orange Blossom Special, 1965

I am not much aware of the songs that you share. But I come to your posts as I can relate to your love and passion for the music. I have the same love and passion for songs that I listen to and I too know a bit about every song...the singer, composer, lyricist etc along with any interesting background story that happened in the making of the song

I appreciate you stopping by, and I’m glad you share the love of music. We do tend of be focused on the art of our country or heritage. I’m familiar with “Bollywood” as a term but not the cinema itself.

@FourWalls Actually I grew up in an era that was not digital and use of Internet was very limited. We didn't get exposed to too much of culture from other parts and the same with music. Though we did watch some good Hollywood movies.
My daughters are so much of aware of music outside our country. They have favourite Korean bands, love Western music as well as love the Indian ones.

I can’t get the link to open. I’ll try again. I’m not sure if I’m familiar with this one, but I love Johnny Cash.

It was a big hit for him, and I think this is the best-known version of Dylan’s song.

I'd have to go with The Turtles version of It Ain't Me Babe. Howard Kaylan has a much better singing voice than Bobby and well, Johnny's great, but doing Dylan enough said.

I grew up with Johnny’s version, but I’ll agree that Flo and Eddie did a much better job.

Picky Wedia says it’s about Suze Rotolo, the woman on the cover of The Freewheelin’ Bob dylan. They’re as reliable as a politician, though….

He did. I did a countdown of songs that I love that he wrote. I just don’t like his voice.
