I was very good at typing with a pretty good speed. It was at a time when there were no computers. Compared to computers typing was more difficult as there were no ready made methods to correct errors. We had to use some white stuff to block the errors or type the whole thing once again I do not think I will be able to type on a typewriter after getting used to the light and smooth keyboard of the computer. Did you learn to type? Image credit:

I think one gets speed if there is a lot of typing involved.

I had used the old typewriter. As you said, it's very inconvenient if you made an error. But if you use the IMB electric typewriter, correction was easy.

I had one electronic typwriter and you are right and there we could save what we typed. But I was talking of the manual typewriter.

Our fingers had good muscles from learning to type on a typewriter! The keyboards now are VERY light - our fingers have it easy these days. I had typing class at school - when I was about 13-14 years old.

@allknowing I did, because I learned in high school, and in business school and later on I was on Keypunch operator and also in the typing pool working at British Leyland.

By the time I was a young girl, computers were already popular. I never used typewriter. My grandfather had one and I remember him using it to write all his books and papers. We still have them as his memory.

Seems you belong to the younger generation who were born when computers were in existence.

@arunima25 I got a desk top in the year 1998 - not so far behind I started going for classes in 1984 and learnt basic, and Excel. In the year 1998 I bought the book Windows for Dummies and a friend taught me how to work on a computer.

Moreover, we have to press it very hard, otherwise the letters will not appear.

Unless you keep in touch your speed will disappear and with the keyboard that we have for our pc with a soft touch going back to the typewriter will be an ordeal
