Day 113 Romans 9:1 I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, 2 that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I was accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, 4 who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; 5 of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen. Do you have compassion for people? Do you grieve for them when they live contrary to what is right and good? Would you trade places with them to show them how much you love them? Paul had so much compassion for his fellow countrymen that he would stand accursed before God for them so they could know God who gave them the law, and covenants, who adopted them and gave them His promises, to whom God gave them Jesus, their Messiah so they could live in Him who is eternally blessed. As Christians, you know God sent His Son, Jesus, first to His chosen people so they could know Him and accept Him and the promises He gave them. Does it grieve your heart when God’s people turn their back on Him? Do you do everything you can so they would know Him and God who is eternally blessed? God is compassionate toward His people. He doesn’t want anyone to perish, separated from Him for eternity. Therefore, He sent Jesus, His Son, to die and go to Hell for them so they could live. Ephesians 4:8 Therefore, He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.” 9 (Now this, “He ascended” —what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) Jesus paid the ultimate price for your salvation. He went to Hell, so you won’t need to. Because He did, you should have compassion for everyone who does not know Him. You should do whatever it takes to pour His love on others so they can know Him too. Paul had that compassion. He would rather die than see one of God’s people separated from Him for eternity. What are you willing to do for those who don’t know Jesus as Savior and Lord? What will you give so they will live? Jesus paid the ultimate penalty for your sin. He went to Hell for you, so you don’t need to. Do you have the same compassion for seeing people saved as Paul did? Let’s pray: Father, give me compassion for Your people. Let me show everyone Your love and mercy, your grace and compassion. Let me show them the love of God who is eternally blessed. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Sometimes we can have compassion for someone, but it is also good if we are well-versed in scripture too, and allowing the Holy Spirit to talk through us as well, as this allows us to answer the questions of the ones that we are trying to help too. Without scripture, and the power of the Holy Spirit in us, we can sometimes feel at a loss as to how to help others, even though we are really truly compassionate to their position also.

I agree. Compassion without the Holy Spirit is shallow.

@just4him Yes, the Holy Spirit increase the depth of everything in us, from wisdom, to understanding, to compassion, and love too.
