Day 120 1 Corinthians 10:15 I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. 18 Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifice’s partakers of the altar? 19 What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? 20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot take part in the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. 22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? Many churches will not allow a person who does not attend their denomination to participate in holy communion. They teach that they alone have the right to the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Paul told the Corinthian church that because they believed they were one bread and one body, and they all partook of the body of Christ. When they did, they blessed the body and blood of Christ. He told them that just as the Israelites ate the sacrifice of the altar, they too, as believers, partook of the body of Christ. He also told them that those who did not believe, sacrificed to demons when they sacrificed to idols. They were to separate themselves from idol worship because they could not partake of the Lord’s table and the table of demons. Many people call themselves Christians and participate in holy communion. It is no more than a ritual that satisfies their conscience. Yet it is no more than a sacrifice to demons because they do not believe. They make a show of Christianity. You know them because you see them displaying their disbelief by the activities, they participate in. Christians who are Christians in name and action, bless the Lord when they participate in holy communion. For them it is holy because they are one body and blood with Christ. Communion is more than a ritual; it is an act of reverence for what Jesus did for them in sacrificing Himself on the cross for their salvation. They bless Him every time they partake of communion and hold it as a sacred act that Jesus told them to do as often as they came together to remember Him and what He did for them in dying and rising from the dead for their salvation. Those who make a show of Christianity, dishonor the body and blood of Jesus. Paul told them what the consequences were of those who took part in holy communion in an unworthy manner. 1 Corinthians 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. 27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. (NKJV) You don’t want to be found unworthy of the body and blood of Jesus and bring His judgment on yourselves. Therefore, participate in holy communion often because you believe in what Jesus did on the cross. When you do, you bless Him for what He did for you. Let’s pray: Father, let me be found worthy of the body and blood of Your Son, Jesus when I participate in holy communion. You made me one with the body of Christ. Therefore, let me honor the body when I honor You in participating in holy communion. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 13 November 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.
