A wet autumn

Today I just wish it would stop raining for a bit! I know we needed lots of rain after the dry summers we have had, but by now I’m starting to feel a bit like Noah! And I need to get some jobs done in the garden but I don’t want to compact the soil by standing in the beds when everything is so wet, and anyway everything (including me) gets covered in mud. I still need to clear out the greenhouse (which is obviously dry inside, but I need to put things outside first) and plant the last of the bulbs I bought, and I have volunteered to empty the village planters of spent compost, and of course when it’s pouring down all the time they are full of water and extra heavy. On the bright side this damp autumn weather is great for fungi. I managed to persuade the family to come out for a walk at the weekend and I loved this parasol mushroom we saw. Can’t you just imagine a fairy market being held underneath it? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2023.

Did you not wish those mushrooms were edible?

Apparently those are very good to eat. But these days I'm the only person in my family who eats mushrooms so I didn't bother, I left it for the fairies!

Yeah, it’s been pretty wet and miserable all round the country of late and no end in sight according to the weather forecast. The jet stream is to blame so they say, or God, if he/she is in charge of the jet stream. I have seen a lot of mushrooms this year but never thought about a fairy market being held underneath. Is that where they are held? I never knew. Anyway, by the time I’ve come across the, they must have packed up and left.

I used to gather various mushrooms too. But nowadays no-one else in my family eats them, so I don't bother.

I certainly can imagine a fairy market going on under that mushroom. It's quite regal standing there waiting for you to capture a picture. Sorry that all that rain has kept you from being able to do your outside work.

A Fairy market under this Mushroom would be quite a dramatic thing to happen ! And perhaps source for a new Fairy Tale !! It so happens that at times, we need rains. Then rains keep coming and coming and we long for sun to come out and dry out the things !

We had a wonderful sunny morning and now it is dark and cloudy. I noticed some mushrooms in the middle of our lawn.

A fairy market would be fun to see. I looked for such things when I was a child.

@fleura I’m so excited about getting started in my new garden. I won’t know till spring what’s going to pop up but I’ve got my compost under way and I think I’m going to try no-dig gardening, especially for vegetables.

I hope it stops raining and dries out enough so you can get the outside work done. Interesting mushroom. It would be fun to imagine a fairy market there.

You have the wet season and we have the dry one. I fear that Mother Earth is angry and feeling unwell to give us such extremes.

I hope it dries out long enough for you to get your gardening done before Winter sets in. Good luck!

We've had storm Debi yesterday and the tail end is still with us now. My Mum went out shopping for my step-dad's birthday present and some advent calendars in it! Your mushroom picture is very good. Yes, I can imagine a fairy market being held underneath it!
