Goodbye, My Sweet Girl.

If you've been reading my posts for a while, you may (or may not) remember that I have (had) three dogs --- one being a 15-year-old, blind toy poodle. While I've known her most of her life, she was originally my late Aunt's dog. She came to live with us after my Aunt passed away a few years ago. These last few days, something didn't seem right with her. She stopped eating, eventually stopped drinking, was sluggish and confused, etc. So we made the decision to take her to the emergency vet late last night. I'm not going into details because this whole thing sucks, but what it came down to was.... we had to let her go. It was a hard decision, but her chances even with hospitalization were slim. She was so old. Almost 16. I couldn't let her suffer, so I agreed to put her down. My 23-year-old nephew, who's a real gem, was in the room with me, so I didn't have to be alone. I stayed by her side and petted her until she was asleep. I didn't have the strength to be in there when her heart stopped, but the vet told me that her last moments were of us. I gave her kisses and told her I loved her beforehand. Those who know me know how important she was to me. Some of you even received comments with her picture on here. I'm going to miss her so much, but I couldn't let my baby suffer, so I had to do what was best for her. Obviously, I'm heartbroken and have cried multiple times. I'm doing a few things online and then I may stay offline for the rest of the evening. Goodbye, my sweet girl. My sweet Doodles. Until we meet at the Rainbow Bridge. Photo Credit: Me.

Thank you. There's not much more that can or needs to be said; I appreciate the support. It sucks and I miss her, but I'm at peace with knowing she had a full life. I just hope she knows I love(d) her so, so much.

I fully understand your feelings as we too had to do this when there was no cure.

It sucks. :( I wasn't going to risk a low quality of life for her, as well as increasing her anxiety, for something that most likely wouldn't have worked. At least I could be there with her during her final moments. And I'm so sorry you know what it's like. :(

It is always so hard when our furry family members leave us. However, I have good news and you will see here again meanwhile she will be with you in spirit and of course, in your heart. After my husband passed away six years ago I had several experiences on the other side since it was hard to leave him, One of the things I found out at that time was that our loving pets are also there waiting and in the meantime having a great time too, Virtual hugs,

Thank you so much. I would love for my family and me to get a little sign from her. I don't know what to look for, but I'm sure I'll know it when I see it.

I am really sorry. I know it is just so hard to lose a pet we have loved for a long time. Be kind to yourself. Doodles must have been a very special girl.

Thank you very much. I'm sorry you've been through it. :( She was very special. I called her "my sweet girl" because she was just the sweetest.

@MarieCoyle YES! EXACTLY. Like, I'm not saying it's harder than parenthood, but that IS how it feels, especially when you basically become the caregiver of a blind senior dog. She was my baby.

@tammys85 It's' just not an easy thing to get over. People who have never had loving pets in their lives don't understand, but they are like children to us.

Thank you, and I am so sorry. My nephew had just put his older cat down about a year beforehand, so he couldn't bear to look. I handled it like a champ because I didn't want to upset my sweet girl. I cried before and after though.

Thank you so much. She was calm (well, as an older dog, she was a hyper pup in the past) and was an absolute sweetheart. I miss picking her up and carrying her around. :(

This is so sad. I have a 10 years old dog. I am afraid that he will die soon.

I'm behind on my comments but wanted to reach out to you --- I'm so sorry, I know this fear all too well with senior pets. I've felt it for a while with Doodles. My inbox is always open if you need to talk.
